TO WHCM WE DEDICATE THIS SUMMA Sisters of Saint Ioseph The Sisters ot Saint loseph have labored through three centuries, crowned at intervals with martyrdom ot the guillotine during the French Revolution and during excesses ot World Wars. M-other Saint Iohn Fontbonne sent six sisters to America in l836. They have flourished in the New World and now number l5,202 in the United States, with 2,000 in Canada. From these foundation sisters are now working in Puerto Rico, Hawaiian lslands, Solomon lslands, New Guinea, Australia and Iapan. Querbes. ln l828 Father Querbes organized a group ot young men Whose sole aim was to give religious instruction to children. ln l839, the new community received papal approval. The sanctification ot its members, the teaching of Christian doctrine, and the service of the holy altar are the aims ot the community. Many Viatorians are associated with institutions of higher education. They also assist in parishes, preach missions, and many volunteer for Foreign Mis- sions.
