NDEFEATED ELEVEN!
RESUME
"We'll do all right this sea-
son, but watch us in 1942,"
prophesied Coach Arboit back
in 1941. The 1942 football
squad carried out this predic-
tion. Spalding steam-rolled
over every opponent with the
exception of Notre Dame,
whom the Irish managed to
nose out 7 to 6. Spalding cap-
tured first place in Inter-City
and Greater Peoria competi-
tion and also shared first place
honors in the Illinois Catholic
Conference. Coach Ennio Ar-
boit's coaching genius showed
quite plainly during the entire
season-and given that edge,
Irish courage and fight did the
rest.

Coach Ennio Arboit led a veteran
squad, flanked by 14 returning let-
termen, against Trinity of Bloom-
ington. Rolling up a 30 to 6 score,
Spalding gave the local fans a
glimpse of what they had to offer
during the coming season. The Irish
ran up a total of 465 yards from
scrimmage, breaking away for runs
of over 20 yards on eight different
occasions. The crowning achievement
of the afternoon was a 72 yard jaunt
by Sammy Delgado in the fourth
quarter. The Saints were held score-
less until the third quarter when
Jimmy Ryan plunged over from the
one foot line.

the Maroons came to the goal was

the Purple ball carriers resembled a

three blockers always preceded the

SUCCESSFUL SEASON
RESUME
The past basketball season has been one of the most success-
ful in the history of the school. Finishing the regular season with
a record of 16 wins against 3 losses. the Irish won undisputed hrst
place in the Inter-City and Greater Peoria Leagues. Spalding
dropped only one game in the Greater Peoria circuit. that being to
East Peoria. For the second time Spalding participated in the
state regional tournament, where they worked themselves to the
Hnals. but were defeated by their Pekin hosts. Many times during
the season the Irish were rated among the best fifteen teams in the
state.

proved too much for the Irishg and Spald-

later in the season avenged this defeat by

The Irish really started the New Year
right when they nosed out an extremely
powerful Canton five 44 to 43. After this
inspiring victory Spalding avenged last
season's double defeat by Woodruff when
they beat the Warriors 54 to 43. The
Irish subdued the brilliant fourth quarter
rally of East Peoria, and the Raiders be-
came the eighth team to fall to the Purple.
Trinity and Eureka bowed before the
Irish in quick succession. In the second
meeting of the year between the two
schools, East Peoria avenged their earlier
loss and decisively beat the Purple 38 to
26. This was the first game played with-
out the services of co-captain. Rollie In-
gold. who was lost by mid-year gradua-
tion. In the next two games, however,
Spalding once again hit their stride when
they beat Central 45 to 20, and Washing-
ton 47 to 6. A brilliant fourth quarter
rally by Pekin handed Spalding their
third defeat of the season, 52 to 41.

The Reverend Benedict Schlimm O.S.B. and the
Reverend Sylvester Palacz O.S.B. were very successful
during the past year in conducting an intramural league
at Spalding. This year the program was restricted to
Freshmen and Sophomores because of the strained
scholastic schedule of the upper classmen. Several
teams were selected from the Freshman and Sopho-
more home rooms. Freshmen competed with Freshmen,
and Sophomores competed with Sophomores. In the
Freshman league the two teams with the best record
were considered the winners. Because the Sophomore
league was smaller the one team with the best record
was proclaimed the winner.

Beginning what looked like a disastrous season the Freshman-
Sophomore team improved every game, and they managed to finish
the season with a .500 rating. After losing the first four games, the
Irish finally began to click and won six of their remaining ten games.
Under the guidance of the Reverend Sylvester Palacz O.S.B. the
Yearlings dropped several games during the course of the year by
only one point. In most games as many as three complete teams were
used, thus giving every one a chance to play. Father Sylvester greatly
helped the future Varsity by seeing that his boys gained the much
needed experience on the actual playing floor. It is our hope that this
experience will prove valuable in the building of future Spalding
basketball teams. These boys will be expected to uphold the record
of the Varsity teams in the past. The fact that a few boys advanced
from the Freshman and Sophomore ranks to the Varsity proves the
value of having under class basketball teams in high school.
THE CFFIC
It is the job of the cheerleaders and of the cheering section to
build, and to hold at a high level, the morale of the athletic teams.
The success of any team depends upon the support given it by the
student body. The Irish teams of the past year had the support of
all Spaldingites. A great deal of credit must be given to the Spald-
ing cheerleaders, who were instrumental in bringing about this
support. They were not acrobats and they didn't have Hashy uni-
forms. They got their response through hard work and were highly
successful in keeping the chant "Yea Spaldingu ringing over the
football gridiron and basketball court.
Credit must also be given to those men who keep the teams
supplied. The managers are directly responsible for every piece of
athletic equipment issued to the players. Wartime restrictions make
this equipment very hard to obtaing thus they must be particularly
cautious. They must be there when repairs are needed for uniforms
which many times falter under the strain of battle. The managers
also must be on hand hours before game time to pack the equip-
ment. So hats off to these unheralded men behind the scenes!

Secretary ot Admissions,
Bradley College, Peoria, lllinois
President--'Dr. Frederic R. Hamilton
Reqistrar- -Mr. Asa Carter
RADLEY is a non-sectarian, coeducational college with a program which
unites a liberal education, preparation for a major interest, and experience
in practical life under guidance and counsel. The carefully selected student
body of 800 comes from twenty-four states and four foreign countries.
Bradley is on the approved list of the Association of American Univer-
sities and the American Association of University Women. lt is accredited
by the North Central Association of Colieges and Secondary Schools as a
degree-granting institution, by the University of Iilinois with Class A stand-
ing, and by the Illinois State Department of Public Instruction.
Bradley has unusually large curricular offerings tor a small college. Besides
regular liberal arts courses, there are departments in business administration,
home economics, industrial education, music, art, and nursing. It has a na-
tional reputation.
ATHLETICS
Bradley supports and is interested in inter-collegiate and intra-mural
athletics. ln addition to a schedule of football, basketball, baseball, traclr,
and tennis, which is arranged each year with leading middle western col-
leges and universities, the division ot intra-mural athletics provides a weli
organized program which gives meaning to the aim, "Sports for Ali." Such
teams participate in all of the games mentioned above and in golf, archery,
wrestling, hand ball, volley bail, swimming, tumbling and boxing.
EXPENSES
Bradley is not an expensive college for the student. lt is endowed and
is constantly increasing its resources in order that students will be required
to pay as small a fraction of the cost of an education as possible. The tuition
is very reasonable. This is especially noticeable when comparison is made
with other standard colleges which do not offer as extensive technical, scien-
tific, and laboratory courses.
