mg the followtng month Anna Byrd Stewart a noted lecturer gave an mterest mg talk on fournahsm The Peg O s Sa1nt Patrtck s Day party was followed a month later by thetr annual play Peg O My Heart wh1ch marked the club s tenth annrversary One of the outstandtng ev nts of the year was the retreat glven by the Reverend George Murdock Chaplaln at West Pornt Toward the end of May the Academy partlclpated ID a magntflcent ceremony the held Mass held at Recreatton Center On Thursday May 25 we repeated the en loyable boat eXcurs1on up the Hudson Our last class party as tumors was a p1cn1c on the rocks Most of the students part1c1pated tn the annual play The Last of the Vestal V1rg1ns gtven on fune l4 We pald our last tnbute to the departlng sentors by a banquet beautlful rn tts flower garden mot1f and beauttful too 1n 1ts expressron of the love that bound us all together lt made us reahze not only that we were losmg dear fnends but that we also would soon be saylng goodbye After that came Class Day and wlth 1t the trrumph of the year the frrst Aloyslan N1ne Llttle Peppers parted for a fmal vaca non senlors at last Nme Smart Gtrls The group of 40 proudly took 1ts off1c1al place as the Sen1or Class Wtth a new sense of dlgnlty and responsrbllrty we assembled ID the chapel for th openmg Mass of the Holy Ghost celebrated by the Reverend lohn I Corr1gan The students ln the new maroon unrforms made an rmposlng ptcture as they flled afterwards mto the Academy butldtng Socral affalrs began wrth a p1cn1c at S1lver Lake to un1te the new gtrls wrth the old 1n the true Good Counsel Splfll At a meetmg of the enttre Htgh School on October 5 1t was declded by almost unantmous vote that the Aloysran should be contlnued The next event of lmportance was the annual bazaar held 1n Preston Hall and each senlor dtd her part to make 1t a success One of the outstandtng occaslons for us was the rece1v1ng of our class rmgs 1ust before Thanksgtvmg Durlng the latter part of December the Newman Club of Sa1nt fohn s pansh mvlted three senlors from the Academy to speak on the Holy Sacnflce of the Mass Instead of the general Chnstmas party thts year each class had tts own festtvttres and ours was a frlendly and Jolly one After thrs l94U went on wrth qutckenrng pace On February Zl the Juruors accompanled us to the lmpenal on an lce skatma party Members of the Chlt Chat Staff and of the Qutll and Scroll made an all day tr1p to New York on March 6 v1s1t1ng the Good Housekeepmg lnstnute and the Hayden Plan tarlum Wtth French and Lat1n Club pctr 1C on A hletc Club out1ng a luncheon for th new members of the Ca drnan Chcptor and rehearsals for the Peg O play Ann e Lau 16 cnd for the school play Cathertne the Val ant our sentor days were full The elabo a e banquet grven to us by the Junlors touched us deeply and brought the ftrst tears Durtng the days wh1ch followed came the reahzatton that thts was lndeed goodbye As we knelt at the altar ra1l on the feast of Sa1nt Aloyslus the patron satnt of our beloved Reverend Mother we knew at last what gradua tron meant' Our happtness at the Comrnun1on breakfast was not unm1xed wrth sorrow Nrne Smart Gtrls We close tne cover tenderly Ntne smart g1rls7 N1n wlser humbler gtrls gtrls who know that graduatron IS only a commencement who feel the need of keeprng w1th them all therr l1ves Our Lady of Good Counsel E DOUGHERTY I BYRON M MARTET L XI UNBI KN I I V 1 T . .
