Phil 2. 1 .Q 3 . The Misses Helen trightl and Carol Tobin compare notes in preparation for their descrip- tion of Inaugural Vileek in XVashington. Highlights 0 Inaugural Wee 2 The trip to XVashington for Presi- dent Truinan's Inauguration was more than fun for the lucky Nlisses Helen and Carol Tobin. January 17 found these two fortu- nate maidens. with several relatives and many Bostonian friends. boarding the train for XYashington. On their arrival. they were delighted to have a long day of sightseeing before them. Trinity College. Georgetown and Nlt. Vernon were some of the interest- ing places visited. They found Alfred'sU a popular restaurant at the Capitol. an enjoyable place to dine. XYho wouldnt. when it was discovered that the owner is a Boston College alumnus? Thursday was a cold day for Inauguration. but despite the Weather. the our girls had a grand time. At eleven forty-live they were in their places watching the nn- portant men arriveg and finally came the President. Before Xir. Truman and Vice- President Barkley took their oaths. Began sang the Star-Spangled Bannerf, The President then gave his address which inet with enthusiastic applause. The parade was very extensive. but the Nlassachusettsi float showing the landing at Plymouth Rock and, of course. the Nledford C. Y. O. Band were highlights for the Bay Staters. After attending a reception at the Admiralty Club the girls went to the ln- augural Ball. Here they met many celebri- ties and took their places as pages. They arrived at their hotel shortly after three in the morning and enjoyed a late sleep that day. The night following the Inaugural Ball they attended a reception given by Senator NIcCrath of Rhode Island. Satur- day brought a shopping tour and visits to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Leeis Mansion. and the Colosseum. Sunday. the girls and their family attended Mass at the Cathedral. They took the one oiclock train back to Boston. Helen and Carol look back now and say, That was the most glorious week of our livesf, Kay Doyle
