NG Crusa eC0nventio11 At Notre Dalne It was a typical summer day. that twenty-fifth of August. 19-18. when we Pil- grims. 15 in number. gathered together from various New England States to start westward. The three Sisters who were to accompany us were at South Station to greet us. XYe could hardly believe that the moment of the great event had finally arrived. Our dear parents. who made this trip possible were bubbling with happiness as they waved good-bye and Cod-speed to the moving train. After becoming adjusted. we entertained UQ our fellow companions by exchanging the experiences of the sum- mer in lively converse. The train. Paul Rererc, on which we were travelling. was air-conditioned so imagine our surprise the following morning when we arrived in Chicago to learn that the temperature was 105 degrees. The joys that lay before us, however. dispelled all thoughts of heat for within a few moments we were at the Hotel Morrison where the Summer School of Catholic Action was in session. Here we had the wonderful experience of meeting the Priest who spends his life aiding teen- agers on the road to happiness. Father Daniel Lord. whom you see pictured elsewhere in our book. His lecture on voca- tions left us in the proper disposition for all we were to hear at Notre Dame Uni- versity. The second stage of our pilgrimage found us at South Bend. huddled together with thousands of others and being carried with feet oil' the ground toward the Con- vention Registration Oftice. llave you ever been in a crowded elevator? XVe leave this picture to your imagination. asking you to bear in mind that the heat was registering close to 10-1 degreesl Our rooms were in the Breen Phillips Building which we cer- tainly could not have located were it not for the helping hand of that famous foot- ball team. Hmml And then we began to meet other units and many delightful friendships were made between the vari- ous crusade representatives from the other States of the Union and from Xlexico. A constant source of entertainment was the Notre Danze. Indiana. Our Lady SllI'lIlUllI11S the golden dome. The grotto .rt midnight.
