STUDENT GOVERNMENT September 1945, marked the initial stage of a now well-organized Student Government. Trudg- ing along in the footprints of our predecessors, we adhere to a form of government uniting students with their professors in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation. Imbibed also with the memory of our staunch and courageous pace-setters, and urged on by their valor and stamina, we have endeavored to propagate a deeper spirit of cooperation and loyalty to our Alma Mater. Have we attained our purpose? The Future alone will give the answer. With hearts aflame with higher ideals, The Student Govern- ment of St. Ann's toils to fashion ardent Catholic women- the ideal citizens of tomorrow. It is with the hope that we have succeeded in grasping the meaning of this important truth that we set forth leaving behind footprints leading to Him, so that our successors may carry higher still the torch of undying loyalty. MEETING: October 29, 1948. PURPOSE: Explain to students the Constitution of St. Ann's Student City and the purpose of Student Government: To increase our knowledge of parliamentary law and democratic living, to aid teachers in their task of education: to learn to consider our school as a family, to appreciate the importance of cooperation and teamwork in mak- ing the school a happy place to live in. The term Student Government is not self-government. There is no such thing as self-government in school improvement. First: the principal is the one offi- cially charged by the community to be responsible for the school, second: the students lack judgment, a most necessary qualification for governing. Judg- ment comes with maturityg maturity, with expe- rience: we, the students, lack both. MEETING: October 8, 1948. PURPOSE: Explanation of the Marshal System. The system went into effect Monday, October 11, 1948. Captain: Louise DeLisle. Miss Anna. Keenan .of Home Room 4 was elected by majority as Chief Justice of Student Court. PURPOSE: Discussion of various problems: 1. Educational movies 2. Sunday afternoon privileges 3. Saturday study 4. Night study 5. Dancing 6. Glee Club 7. Band 8. School spirit 9. Week ends 10. Clothes drive 11. Gym suits MEETING: December 17, 1948. PURPOSE: Discussion of various problems. MEETING: January 13, 1949. PURPOSE: Selection of movies to be studied.
