Our senior attendants Kathy and Gwen are also well known around the " HIVE " . Kathy is senior class sec. Gwen is a song- leader. Our junior and sopho- more attendants are also very popular young ladies. Libby is a mem- ber of the Emeraldetts Drill Team. Janet is one of our more popular sophomores. ROTC Ball Queen And Court LEFT TO RIGHT: Sophomore Attendant — Janet Washington: Queen — Linda Sanders: Junior Attendant — Libby Nichols. This years ROTC Ball was held at the Masonic Temple in Mission Valley. Eight hundred were in attendance at this lovely affair. The evening was topped off with the crowning of the queens from all the schools in San Diego. CLASS OF Class Of ' 69 With the close of this last year in high school I ' m sure that the past twelve years hold many memories that will be trea- sured for years to come. The Senior Cabinet would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the chance of being a significant part in your Senior year. The activities classes, joys, and mishaps we experienced together weren ' t all planned, but all contributed to making the year a successful one. The challenge of advising a class in deci- sions which instill fond personal recollec- tions as well as educational direction has been met and accomplished by the class. We, the Senior Cabinet, express our appre- ciation to Mr. Howell, Mrs. Bell, Mr. Swift, and Mr. Martin for their patience and in- curable guidance. The Hornet ' s Marching Band continued to further the great tradition of excellence at the " HIVE " . The band received trophies for their fine performances in the annual Mother Goose Parade, La Jolla Christmas Parade, and for first place in the Shrine Pa- rade. They provided colorful halftime shows at our football games along with the Drill Team. The effort and time volun- teered by these musicians is appreciated by the student body and the Statesman staff. iir ' ' ' The Pep Band has added soul to our rallies and Home- coming. The Lincoln Hornets salute our big pep band. Sponsor: Mr. Artimez. ' Soul On ' Orchestra Our orches tra has per- formed at our Christmas and Spring programs. Sponsor: Mr. Artimez. Ensemble Directed by Mrs. Pryor, Lincoln ' s fine Ensemble performed at many engagements both on and off cam- pus. One of the highlights of this year was their performance on tele- vision Christmas Eve. Acclaimed one of the finest vocal groups in the city of San Diego, the Hornets are most proud of their Ensemble. CONCERT Our choir this year totaled some sixty voices. Although it was somewhat smaller than in recent years, we ' ve found quality is much better than quantity. Under the direction of Mrs. Na- omi Pryor they have performed at numerous events. Displays Election Clean ■ Campus Harambee Harambee, or " let us pull together " was a student organization formed this year to point out to all students the importance of education in todays society. Led by a tiard-workingcore of students, Harambee aided students in ttieir studies and their adjust- ment to high school life. Executives This club offers the opportunity for all presi- dents of the various school organizations to meet and discuss new ideas and to solve com- mon problems. Their mam goal IS to have fun while acquainting the students with the various cultural aspects of Germany. French Club Norris Edmundson Vice President Deborah Richardson Secretary The French Club is for stu- dents who are interested in learning to speak French. French club members can obtain broad knowledge and familiarity of the language by actual communication with one another. They also study to become better acquainted with French culture. Adelphians The Adelphians is a school service club that consists of sophomore, junior and senior girls. The girls who are selected as Adelphians must have a high grade- point average and be active in many school clubs and activities. The purpose of this club is to promote school spirit and to sponsor charitable activities for on and off-campus organizations. Mrs. Nada Patton was the sponsor of the Adelphians this year. Wilfred Buck, from Germany, fell right into the Hornet tradi- tion of participation and school spirit. He played in our Pep Band, sang in the En- semble, and performed on the Track Team. It has been an exciting experience to have Wilfred at the Hive and we will all miss him after the school year. Carolyn Norman Gary Smith Wilfred Finds A Home At The Hive Key Club During the past school years the key club sponsored by the Harbor Kiwanis, has served with school and community. In 1968-69. there were Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter drives for needy children, assistance at athletic events, and the key-club faculty basketball game. Mr. Szuch is sponsor. An opening loss to tough Western League power University shocked the Hornet ' s and got them rolling on their winning ways. The offense led by backs Mel Maxwell, James Allison and Marion " Be Be " Franklin, crushed the next opponent and got the Hornet ' s moving. k £ The Agony Of Defeat Two tough losses to Morse and St. Augustine ruined the Hornets chances for repeating as CIF champs, however great defense, led by linebacker Mike Lee and tackle Oscar Allen, resulted in a respect able 5 win 3 loss record. Minor Sports Attract Fine Athletes CROSSCOUNTRY The 1968 Cross Country team had a winning season coming from 6th in the League in 1967 to 3rd in 1968. The primary problem, as in years past was depth. The team was led by Captain Peter Castro. Other members of the varsity included: Mario Gonzales, Milton Mitchell, Donald Shepard, Clive Carrero, Robert Marshall, and Gary Boles. GYMNASTICS The Gymnastics team was young and inexperienced this year, despite this handicap there were some out- standing individual performances. Strong team members like John Maze, Curtis Jones and Darrell Rucker will be returning next September. VARSITY BASKETBALL — 1968-69 Clarence Brown — Center Colts Crushed Hornet Basketball Lincoln Basketball went through a rebirth in ' 68 ' 69. Picked by preseason experts to have a rebuild ing year! Coach Peterson ' s Hornets surprised every body. At press time, the cagers were 15-8 overal and 9-2 and m second spot in the Eastern League. Led by the scoring of Lawrence " Sonny " Gibbs and the excellent play of juniors, Clar- ence Brown, Billy Reed, and Stanley Cherry the Hornets had one of the best seasons in the school ' s history. Lincoln ' s baseball- ers were a darkhorse in the East- ern League and at press time had given the perennial powerhouses, including the Crawford Colts, a scare. The Hornets battled the Colts before bowing 4-3. Compil- ing a 4-2 record in League competition and 6-6 overall. The Hornets finished second to Morse in the Eastern League. Hornet grapplers, Glenn Tsuida (106 lbs), Larry Kida (127 lbs), and Wayne Murry (145 lbs) all were selected on the All-Eastern League Team. Rifle Team 68-69 This was a rebuilding year for the Hor- net marksmen. At press time, the rifle- men had accomplished two big wins over Kearny and Madison and were on their way to CIF competition. Top marksmen this year included Leonard Polk, Vernard Byrd and Allipio Nillaga. Swimming In its second year of varsity competition. Lm- coln ' s aquamen struggled on the spirit of competi tion.
