Be My Valentine — Th eme for Danee Valentine Dance Be my Valentine” is a typical phrase one always hears around February 14. But for Abingdon High students this year, it became more than just a phrase. Be my Valentine” was the theme of the annual Valentine Dance, sponsored by the Key Club. Debbie Roark was crowned Valentine queen. A well known band, Southern Comfort, provided entertain¬ ment for the couples attending. Christmas Royalty Crowned at Dance Christmas Dance Mistletoe, streamers, and Christ¬ mas lights were among the decorations at the annual Christmas Dance. Mem¬ bers of the Interact Club worked dili¬ gently decorating for the event. Velvet dresses, loud music, and a gigantic tree helped to reflect the holiday spirit of the students attending. Couples danced to the music of J. Gardner Steele in the romantic candle-lit atmosphere. Highlighting the dance was the announce¬ ment of Snow King and Queen. Danny Wilson a sophomore, and Donna Casteel a freshman, received the honors. Dreams of Christmas and the happy Yuletide season captured couples’ moods as they danced through the evening. Kathv Moretz Crowned Queen Spring Formal Palm trees, a sparkling pond of water, and gay floral arrangements added to the Garden Party theme at the Spring Formal. Couples danced to the music of Junction , a popular band from Lexington, Virginia. The highlight of the event was the crowning of the May Queen, Kathy Moretz. Other members of the May court were Debbie Riffey, Debbie Roark, Debbie Durrett, and Peggy Kimberlin. The National Honor Society sponsored the annual dance. 17
