of the season, the Eagles, with determination and fighting spirit in their
hearts, set out to accomplish one goal-District Championship.
Having lost a game to San Angelo and one to Big Spring in the first half
of the double round robin schedule, the Birds avenged these losses with
stinging defeats to the enemy in the second half. The other games of the sea-
son were mostly a cinch, and many times the Abilene hustlers emerged from
tilts with lopsided scores in their favor. Two such times were the Colorado
City and Midland games with scores of 49-l7 and 48-16, respectively.
With Stovall as their captain and high scorer of the season U52 pointsl,
the Eagles stretched their home winning streak to twenty-five games and
their District winnings to four out of the last five years.
After winning District, the Cagers faced only one foe before the State
