Coach H. S. l"ather'r'ee's tennis squad of ten players reported for practice the
first of the year. Among the lettermerr returning from last yearls squad were Willard
Foster, Margrette Weed, Max Chenoweth, Dorothy Horton, and Frances Machen.
ln practice games with Hamlin, Ranger, Eastland. Roby. lireckenridge. and Baird.
the Abilene racqueteers made a clean sweep of the games, winning all four divisions
front their opponents. ln preparation for the tennis tournarrrent, Coach Fatlrerree
held eliminations to select his representatives. Again Willard Foster and Margrette
Xveed, defending champions of the boys, and girls' singles represented Abilene at the
District Meet. Max Chenoweth. a member of the boys' doubles championship team
of l933. and his new partner, C. H. Boyd, were selected to play the boys' doubles.
Again Dorothy llorton and Frances Maclren composed the girls' doubles team.
Contestants from twenty-five or more cities met at the Simmons Courts on
April 7-8, to decide the champions of District 8. The Abilene rretters swept through
the first day of the tournament, advancing to the semi-finals. Defeating the Cross
Plains entry with ease, Willard Foster, Abilene's ace racqueteer, advanced to the
