Attendants were Mary Ann Hege, Paula Norton, and Ijiura Mann. At right is Loraine Driscoll, chosen as most aluable player in the Homecoming game against Malad, which Aberdeen won with a score of 8 to 0. This was the first Home- coming game Aberdeen has won for 12 years. 1979 40 HOMECOMING week started cold on spirit, but each day it warmed until it finally exploded at the Friday night game. Each day senior citizens, babies, twins, and inside-out people roamed the decorated halls. Someone forgot to tell the teachers that testing sprees don't count toward spirit! Thursday evening came alive as students danced a long journey to a unique bonfire. In Friday's great parade, sixteen enchanting girls rode on hand-labored floats. With the pepband pro- viding spirited tunes, the newly-organized drill team made history riding instead of marching, and the senior class finally won the spirit stick after losing for three years! Homecoming week is a special memory. fWw VI Ron I, Sophomore candidates: Angela Forrey, Shelley Peck, Paula Nor- Ron I, Senior candidates: Kay Thurston, Sandra Duffin. Julie Jack- ton, and Debbie Fehringer. Ron 2, Freshmen candidates: Sue Ann Ward, man, and Brenda Isaak. Ron 2, Junior candidates: Cami Pahl, Janilee Brenda Hincks, Laura Mann, Tana Poulson. Duffin, Mary Ann liege, and Fdith Ihorak. 43 Harvest Ball The FFA and FHA provided a bright decor of red, yellow, white, and blue, and the best cookies in town, for an evening of socializing and dancing. Musical atmosphere was provided by Ron, Don, and Hart. Once again the two clubs accumulated a fortune as anything from pennies to ten dollar bills were dropped into the box for the school's favorite sweetheart. The final count determined l.aSac Phillips to he the I979-I9S0 Chapter Sweetheart. She was crowned by last year's sweet- heart, Beth Whyte, and was presented with a jacket and necklace by FFA pres. Rex Christensen. Although the atten- dance was slightly smaller this year, all those present pro- fessed an enjoyable evening. Junior Miss This year's Junior Miss pageant was a big success for Aberdeen and the Chamber of Commerce which sponsored it. Evan and Karin Palmer were the pag- eant chairmen. Out of fourteen participating girls, Tammy Pierce was crowned the new 1979-80 Aber- deen Junior Miss, and also received the poise and appearance award. Cori Palmer was named First runner up; Sandra Puffin named Second runner up and she also received physical fitness award; Lisa Harder won the scholastic award, Simplicity sewing contest, Kodak photo contest, and tied with Deanne Rowhury for the Spirit of Junior Miss. w SADIE HAWKINS The Sophomore-sponsored annual fling known as Sadie Hawkins is always a favorite, and this year’s class out-did themselves. Committee planners and doers were Sandra, Jilane, Debbie, Rita, and Marie. They put together a real Dogpatch delight! Sandra Isaak and Doug Walther were Lil Abner and Daisy Mae. Other candidates were Mary Ann Fox, Debbie Fehringer, Jody Kendall, Clinton Inskeep, Mark Anderson and Nathan Anderson, all of whom made their entrances in wagons. John W alther tried to convince Val that the kissing booth was more fun than dancing, and the refreshments were generous and finger-lickin' good. Bless the Sophomore’s pea-pickin’ hearts. YOUTH LEGISLA TURE Youth Legislature is an activity for dedicated stu- dents, only. During January and February, they give up their noon hours in order to learn the necessary ruiments of political conventions. They praise the activity because it “Helps us learn to he a part of government. We can read the papers with more understanding. We know how thepolitical machine works.99 They have high praise for their advisor, Mrs. Chandler, who also gives up her noon hours to train them. Parliamentary procedure was well-enforced and meetings ran smoothly. The seniors enjoyed fining the underclassmen for various offenses until it hack-fired and the seniors had to pay for mistakes. Early-morning meetings were new this year, hut they kept us awake. 55 TIGER TRACKS AND DEN CHA TTER The school publications are under the di- rection of the Annual class: Kay Thur- ston, editor; Mary Ann liege, assistant editor; LuAnn Wynn, business editor; Sandra Duffin, printer and special fea- tures; and Dwight Wallace, photographer. Other special helpers are Brenda Isaak, business and copy; Greg Newberry and Bob Burton who help with photography. Many other students help with editorials, sports, activities, and all the details that are necessary to publications that pre- serve the best memories of the whole year. Pep Club really pepped up this year in spirit, membership, and leadership under president Brenda. Cheering our teams on through thick and thin, our voices could be heard all over town. The Seniors boasted of hating the biggest mouths and many times proved themselves. The Tiger Club became victims of a sudden ERA movement, but the boys stood strong and won or did they? Till this day it still remains a mystery as to what this club does. Even the members don't know when it meets, if it meets, or what it does, except for the fact that membership dues have to be paid. Although it is thought this money goes for sports equipment, inside sources have informed us that it actually goes for gatorade! However, we would like to thank the Senior members who helped the Pep Club with Homecoming as pictured below. We guess the Tiger Club is worth something after all! It’s been a year of Hatching moties from the floor, cleaning eggs, from the front door. Junior Miss Came twice this year; A Senator decided to speak to us here. Sat- urday school had a try; the home-ec room heard a baby's cry. Basketball girls played dozens of games, and almost made it to the hall of fame. The drama class pro- duced a play; and school, for once, let out in May. But mostly we remem- ber this year for the real close friendship that we found here. The faces we look for each day when we come are the best things the best things in life, when all’s said and done. With lore from Kay, Mary Ann, LuAnn, Sandra and Dwight.
