Text from Pages 1 - 112 of the 1979 volume:

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where It bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh! I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads divereged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. Twins and senior citizens and pre-schoolers, movie stars and slaves jazzed up and down our halls for a week as spirit built for the big day. Queen Wendy Wahlen was crowned at a dazzling dance prepared by members of the Pep Club, directed by Lori Michaelson. Juniors provided the best mascot to burn at the bonfire and their float ran away with the parade blue ribbon. The seniors decorated the winning hall and their skit took honors at the assembly. After all points were counted, the seniors took the spirit stick. A hard fought game with long- time rival, American Falls, did not produce a win, but we were proud of the great game our boys played. It was a week to remember, and we're glad we don't have to stuff any more napkins for a whole year. 20 Homecoming candidates for queen and attendants were. Seniors: Tana Nugent, Debbie Savage, Julie Peck and Wendy Wahlen. Juniors: Sandra Beck, Sandra Duffin, Julie Jackman, and Cindy Adams. Sophomores: Melanie Stucki, Anita Hance, Cami Pahl, and (Not shown) Teresa Anderson. Freshmen: Marie Gonzales, Rita Stroschein, Jilane Foster, and (not shown,) Tammy Terry. Dick Bliss won honors as Most Valuable Player. Come on, now. Don't sweat it. Tigers, 'cause Becky and Wendy are here. They're dressed like Hell's Angels, but they look like Charlie's Angels to us. They may be Dopey and Bashful, but we call them Big Al's contract boys. Bright and Brash. we jxxrs jn jyeUEfiO -i Roads lead out before us To study, work, or play. To companionship, to growing - We get to choose the way. And some roads lead to sorrow. Or beckon us to roam. But the road we hold the dearest Is the road that leads to home. The Council plays many roles in our school including those of jury, manager, police, counselor, and care-taker. But maybe its most important role Is that of arbitrator. The relationships between classes, organizations, and faculty are very important, and a big effort is made by the Council each year to keep those relationships good, to find common ground and a Middle Road that Is acceptable to all. The Council is headed by four reliable seniors: Kevin Christensen, treasurer, Jeff Driscoll, vice-pres., Jeff Pahl, president, and Janet Claunch, sec. ANNUAL STAFF Memory Lane Beginning with everyone's favorite day, picture-taking day, the Annual Staff gathers those things that memories are made of and puts them down in neat squares and columns to last a lifetime. Within this cover, no one gets old and grumpy, but smiles out at you each time you open the book. Here are your friends, your honors, your wins and losses, your clothes and hair do's for the year 1978- 1979. To the right are the editors, Kay Thurston, assistant editor, and Debbie Savage, editor, surrounded by memories of past years. Next we see Dwight Wallace, staff photographer, preparing to snap Lisa Harder and De Anne Rowbury, junior pages editors. The whole staff listens attentively as Debbie makes assignments. Below Laree and Angela assemble the names and pictures for Freshmen pages. We hope you all will like traveling Memory Lane. 26 Row 1. Teresa Thelin, Brenda Isaak, Birgitta Holmberg. Row 2. It takes real talent to play a repertoire that includes Beethoven's Fifth and Play That Funky Music. The Pep Band can do it, and they never fail to rouse a scream of admiration from the Pep Club with the opening notes of Rocky. The Drill Team girls can't help but look good when they're marching to the exciting rhythms of the Pep Band. With the new blue traps to mark the beats, this group has the look and sound of a professional organization. Manuel, Steve, and Lee may appear a little goofy here, but when they get serious about playing, we all take the Rhythm Road. 30 DRILL TEAM Road To Precision Back row: Ms. Keyes, Advisor, Sandra Duffln, Edith Dvorak, Shelley Peck, Carol Abercrombie, Jackie Bliss, Krista Nelson, Shelley Nelson, Jolyn Poulson, Betsy Warner, Nellie Rogers. As the year progresses and autumn changes to winter - as football changes to basketball and wrestling, the weeks are marked away Friday by Friday as eighty girls play look - alike in black and white. And at the games, the screaming mass of orange-sweatered boosters adds an excitement that is electric and catching. The Pep Club is special to our school and much appreciated by the athletes for the extra pep and encouragement it gives to them. President this year is Lori Michaelson, assisted by Brenda Isaak, DeLynn Hance, La Nae Phillips and Cindy Adams. Row 6: Larry Kimura (Advisor) Loraine Driscoll, Greg Pahl. Mascot: Cori Palmer This club is the most mysterious club in school. Everyone who is not a member (and some who are) are purely puzzled as to just what this club does. To obtain membership, guys run up and down a 100 yard field, knocking head, falling on the ground, or fighting over a lop-sided ball. Or they try to get a perfectly round ball into a basket that has a hole at the bottom, so the ball won't stay in, anyway. What's worse, they roll around on a mat trying to pull each other's legs off, grunting horribly. And they run in circles - sometimes miles at a time - all to get a little letter A or to be in a mysterious club. They probably wouldn't do all of this if it weren't for the fringe benefits: escorting Homecoming Candidates, or watching the rest of us get out of the road. Officers of this worthy group are Dick Bliss, Byron Duffin and Greg Pahl. 37 FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA Road To Accomplishment Row 1: Mr. Abercrombie (advisor). During the week before this event, the Sweetheart of F.F.A. is chosen. This year George Newberry made very large carrots to hold the voting records. The voters were so rich that George had to grow another carrot very quickly to accomodate the flurry of last-minute voting. Four girls had the honor of being nominated for the position of Sweetheart, including Tracy Fox, Beth Whyte, Lisa Harder, and Becky Simms. When calm descended and the votes were counted, Beth Whyte had won the coveted jacket. This year the F.H.A. assisted the F.F.A. in decorating and preparing for the dance. Committee members who spearheaded the planning included J. Ed Christiansen, Kirk Barclay, Mike Abercrombie, Darren Bradley, Angela Dempster, Carol Abercrombie, and Val Bradley. 43 JUNIOR MISS The Scenic Route The JUNIOR MISS Pageant was sponsored by the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, Evan Palmer, president, Mrs. Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. E.W. BUSSES AND BUILDINGS Slow For Fog We would certainly have low visibility area around here if it were not for the people who maintain the buses and buildings. Mr. Wonderly runs the best-kept fleet of buses in Idaho. Mr. Lloyd appears to be happily destroying the property but actually he is enlarging the periodical room at the library, a great improvement. Mr. Verbeck can be seen almost any hour of the day pushing a wide broom to keep the halls less than ankle deep in locker debris. We must have trash-makers that come out of the woodwork at night. 87 In Appreciation The Yearbook Staff of Aberdeen High School wants to express their gratitude to the merchants who support our book with their advertising. At one time they helped us to have a little nicer book. But with the big rise In cost of the book, we couldn't even have a book without their help. So every student who wishes to have a Yearbook of Memories owes that pleasure, in part, to the kind and cooperative merchants whose ads appear below. We urge you all to be their good customers.
