Text from Pages 1 - 112 of the 1975 volume:

The year of the tiger THIS IS THE YEAR. . .. .OF THE TIGER Tiger Tracks Aberdeen High School Aberdeen, Idaho Volume 58, 1975 Dedication The Seniors gratefully dedicate the 1975 Yearbook to two persons who have helped them greatly in their four years of high school. Leon Adamson has been their advisor for all four years and has helped to make floats, chaperone dances, give advice, and provide support in the many things the Seniors have accomplished. Gayle Ralphs is always ready to give a listening ear and real friendship to any student, and everyone appreciates the help she gives in many projects. As the Seniors leave high school, they say thanks and may God bless to these two friends of Aberdeen High School. 2 Tiger TIGERS OF '75 The class of '75 has been a really Tigerish bunch. The rec room Tiger - the gym floor Tiger - and the ominous Tiger tracks are all '7S creations. And that is where we all found ourselves for a magic week in Novem- ber when the music department produced South Pacific. The orchestra, cast, lighting and technical crews, publications people, stage expens, and director spent over three months rehearsing, joking, laugh- ing, frowning, sleeping, griping, skipping, acting, singing, dancing, painting, pounding, observing, criticising, forgetting, and remembering. T-shirts bloomed overnight proclaiming the pride of those involved. The high school nearly became Dave Quistad's place of residence. He cooly handled the job three men would have had a hard time doing. Susan Nelson and Kerry Poulson headed a fine cast that included Ray Duffin, Melanie Pratt, Scott Poul- son, Marie Duffin, Diane Farnsworth Diane Adams, Vickie Larson, Ruth King, Mark Wallace, Andi Gri- pentog, Paul Stoker, Bill Knudsen, Blake Pierce, Ernest Landvatter, and many, many others. The choreography by Susan Brown was both exciting and professional. Denise Davidson at the piano was unexcelled. Cheryl Isaak and Jan Vollmer sparked the beautiful work by the orchestra. Wes Callihan coordinated the scenery changes that were such a hit with the audiences. Clay Funk and Don Klempel handled the lighting brilliantly. (!) And all of this was pulled together and directed in a truly masterly way by David Quistad. No one went away from South Pacific disappointed. A feeling of deep satisfaction enveloped the school and community. What a week to remember! Junior Miss The Twelve Dancing Princesses would have had to take a second place to our twelve senior girls who partici- pated in the 1975 Junior Miss Pageant. In a dazzling display of talent, charm, and beauty they completely captivated their large audience. How could the judges choose twelve winners? But how could they narrow it to one? From the witch to Juliet and from Funny Girl” to Tschaikowsky, every performance brought glory to the girl and added luster to our school. Our thanks to the Aberdeen Jay Cees who work so hard to bring us this outstanding event. 50 Lee Ann Claunch, Spirit of Jr. Miss; Karen Phillips, 2nd runner-up; Marie Duffin, Jr. Miss '75; Susan Nelson, 1st runner-up; and Denise Davidson, Scholastic. Every inch a queen -- ■■I Vickie, Susan, Denise, Marie, Jan, Lynette, and escorts. Gail, Cheryl, Karen, Mary Kay, Lee Ann, Sherry and escorts. Student Council Each class is represented in the governing body of the Aberdeen High School Student Council. Leadership responsibility is provided to all those involved. The organization meets regularly to discuss and hash-out stu- dent problems, activities, and welfare. Some of the duties of the Student Council are to change the sign of coming and current events on the east wall outside the school, censor posters and other publications within the school, and examine and censor uniforms worn by the Tigerettes and cheerleaders. A few of the outstanding things completed and pro- posed by the Council this year are: the Tiger in the center of the gym, the pen- nants on the wall, the paw prints leading into the gym, and the purchase of recreational games and juke box for the rec room. Student Council is truly a working machine for the betterment of Aberdeen High School. Officers: Jan Wahlen, Tres.; Scott Poulson, Vice-Pres.; Bill Knudsen, Pres.; and Sydney Hoagland, Sec. Board of reviewers, judges, deciders, and farmers. 53 Library And Electronics There are other attractions in the library besides the books. They are Judy Maisch, Linda Schroeder, Vanessa Verbeck, Jan Lar- sen , Cheryl Speth, Cindy Mosbrucker, Twila Christy and Mrs. Huls. Besides looking pretty, they do fil- ing , book processing, shelving, keep order and help puzzled students. Working clothes for working girls. The electronics group, besides doing their class- work , services school equipment such as score boards, projectors, record- ers, and the P.A. system. You should get a charge out of looking at David Stallk- necht, Sam Schultz, Kelly Phillips, Tino Lucero, John Shipley, KipPoulson, Mr. McDermid, Bruce Lowder and Scott Yancey. Reddy Kilowatts’ cousins. 54 Tiger Club ■ y, Ray Duffin, rep., Scott Poulson, pres., Kevin Hoagland, V.P., Richard Vanderford, sec.- treas. Tiger Club is an organization strictly limited to strong, outstanding ath- letes who have lettered in a sport. The club helps maintain Tiger pride and promote school spirit. It annually teams with the Pep Club in spon- soring the Homecoming Dance. The Tiger Club is recognized as the richest organization in the High School. It sometimes can't decide what to do with all its money. Usually a member can easily be spotted wear- ing his orange and black letterman's jacket, showing his pride in the organization. Officers of the wealthiest club in school count their assets. You may count the liabilities. 55 Annual Staff Ads Salesmen, Cecilia Strochein, Mary Ann Perez In a long, narrow room filled with dusty books and a radiator that gives too much heat or none at all, the Annual staff loses pictures, makes typing errors, and misses most important deadlines. The staff is famous for getting students out of classes and, although they are a sweet bunch, most of them would commit a smal’ murder to get a good picture for their pages. Sam has to attend every event, and some that are not. Cecelia and Mary Ann could sell ice cubes to Eskimos; and Blake has a magic pen. Please pay special attention to Blake didn't get individual pictures of them. Ass. Ed. Vanessa Verbeck Adv. The organ- ization supports the athletic teams and sets the exciting, enthusiastic mood evident in.all home games and matches. Without its encouragement and never-ending lungs, many a winning score could be reversed. It inspires assemblies and attempts to raise money. It conveys a positive attitude to the community. It assists the Tiger Club in sponsoring the Homecoming Dance. It is the heart of the school, pumping spirit to everyone. This year the all-female organization added a new blouse to their uniform. Members bloom on game days, always showing up to school in either the tradi- tional orange sweater or the new orange blouse, bottomed with black pants. It's no doubt that the orange and black mass fulfills its roaring duties well. Pep Club officers: Terri Shelman, Vice-pres., Mary Jane Warner, Sec., Sherry Claunch, Pres., Cheryl Hansen, Publ., Vicki Lar- son, Treas. The prettiest noise makers in the SEIC 59 Girls' Federation 1974 saw the organization of a Girls' Federation in Aberdeen High School. This club, open to all the girls in school, was formed to encourage the girls to enjoy fellow- ship with one another, and espe- cially to promote service to others. One of the most interesting activi- ties has been the selection of Girl- of-the-Month. The girls sponsored a Snow Ball girl-ask-boy Christmas dance. They raised money for char- itable purposes by selling station- ary , beautiful big scrumptious cookies, and lovingly mushy Vallo- grams.
