We Are the Dreamers of Dreams” Tiger Tracks Aberdeen High School Aberdeen, Idaho Volume 56, 1973 2 The Seniors of 1972-73 are dedicating their annual to Mr. Walter Isaak. He has advised and guided their class through four years of floats, proms, and plays. He is a friend to all of the students of Aberdeen High School, but especially to the Seniors. Thank you, Mr. Isaak. HOMEC “fcqrciap? OMING Spirit spread throughout the entire student body during Home- coming Week. Each day the students dressed up in silly arti- cles of clothing. Monday was sock and tie day. Tuesday clothes were worn backwards. Jewelry, unmatched shoes, and other strange accessories adorned the hands and feet of the stu- dents on Wednesday. On Thursday the students wore a combi- nation of the clothing from the three previous days. Friday was black and orange day. Thursday evening the students assembled in front of the school for the Snake Dance. They ran through the streets of Aberdeen yelling and shouting victory cheers. The Snake Dance ended at the site of the bon-fire. The wood which each class had collected was burned, forming a funeral pile for the bear ef- figies made by each class. On Friday an assembly was held. Each class put on short vic- •tory-and spirit-boosting skits, trying to add a few last points towards winning the spirit stick. Finally the spirit stick was presented to the junior class. The happy juniors' smiles turned to frowns when later they learned that there had been an error in the addition of points and they had to give the spirit stick up to the seniors. After a fine parade, the long awaited game finally arrived Friday evening. Our football team played a terrific game a- gainst a very tough team—the Bear Lake Bears. Cheered on by screaming cheerleaders, pep club, and rabid fans, the Tigers won 31-15. Fine entertainment at halftime was provided by the band and drill team. Class floats paraded around the field, presenting the candidates for Homecoming Queen and attend- ants, as the band played victory music. The following night was the Homecoming Dance. Orange and white decorations played up the theme song, For All We Know. The ARS Nova played for the dancing. The suspence leading to the coronation was finally broken when Glenda Huntsinger was crowned Queen of Homecoming. Her attendants were: Sheri Poulson, junior attendant; Jan Wahlen, sophomore attendant; and Melanie Pierce, freshman attendant. Randy Mitchell was presented the Player of the game award. During intermission Marie Duffin sang the theme song, accom- panied by Corinne Taylor. Homecoming, 1972, was a fabulous and memorable week for the students of A. H. S. 5 GAME DANCE sn “SADIE HAWKINS” Sadie Hawkins, sponsored by the sophomores, is the grubby dance of the year. Everyone arrives in his worst and makes at least one trip to Marry in' Sam and Sadie, Girls get the dates for this Dogpatch Prance, as boys wait shyly to be asked, (it says here, ) This year's Li'1 Abner and Daisy Mae are Linda Gardner and Kerry Poulson. (above) The Juniors present REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE The Junior class presented the play: REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. POINTING TOWARD GRADUATION Every year a certain part of the music-makers sings the last chorus of the school song and turns its thoughts and plans beyond the big green house. Crazy antics, skipping classes, research papers, winning games, bus rides, and equations have somehow combined and suddenly there stands an impressive group of men and women. We'll never forget the special music that was theirs along. PO WDER U F F On the evening of September 13, the senior girls met the junior girls in a fiery classic, the Powder Puff Football Game, Although the class of '74 won 20-6, both teams showed great fighting spirit. During the pre- game assembly, team members and Mr. Inman's wig were introduced. See below. HARVEST BALL A Tradition at Aberdeen High is the choosing of an F. F. A. Sweetheart. After a week of frantic voting Wendy McNeil was chosen as 1972-1973 Sweetheart, and was crowned at the Harvest Ball. Wendy McNeil F.F.A. Sweetheart If music be the food of love, play on. The purpose of the Junior Miss Pageant is to encourage those talents and activities among teenage girls that are most to be admired. The girl chosen then represents all the girls. This year twenty senior girls participated in a sparkling display of talent that included singing, reading, ballet, sew- ing, cooking, painting, and playing the piano and guitar. The twenty girls are pictured above. Front row: Patty Stecklein, Vickie Lowder, Christy Duffin, Penny Phillips, Bonnie Wood, Dian Larsen, Janice Jackson, Karen Mayer, Sandra Wride, Carla Westover. Representative. F.F.A. of Aberdeen holds an enviable record. It has won the District Sweepstakes tro- phy two years in a row and Ron Richard was named the 1972 District Star Farmer. Welding, pest control, trips, and judging contests keep the farmers busy, as well as the tender loving care they give to their calves, pigs, sheep, and chickens. 20 TIGER CLUB One particularly interesting organ- ization in our school is the Tiger Club. Here those athletes that have lettered in a sport meet and do pushups, tell lies, weigh mus- cles, pop com, and pass out money. They also help sponsor the Home- coming Ball. Officers; Arnold Boldt, Vice-President; Mark Adamson, President; and Dan Fehringer, Sec ret ary-Treasurer. 21 CHOIR Without music life would be a mistake. The choir has been under the supervision of three fine teachers this year, Mr. Robert Melonuk, Mrs. Eleanor Thornley, and Mr. David Quistad. The choir has participated in many outstand- ing programs. They entertained the Aberdeen PTA, entered the Lake view Ward's Young Artist's Festival, sponsored the musical pro- duction of Oliver, as well as presenting the traditional concerts. Music Clinic and the District Music Festival are an important part of the music program. Richard Adams and Layton Anderson shared the title of student director. Accompanists were Annette Wallace, Jan Wahlen, and Mrs. Gayle Ralphs. 23 'T never heard so musical a discord. BAND . .such sweet thunder. This group provides a valuable service in promoting spirit at all times and providing top-notch support for the ath- letic teams. In their famous orange sweaters they make a solid block of roaring enthusiasm. This year the uniform was expanded to include black trousers as well as black skirts, thus enabling the girls to leap the ban- isters and charge the victorious Tiger teams in an orange and black flood. One of the choice highlights of the year is the annual all-night party which includes a night of games, entertainment, food, sleeplessness, and tears. This party is looked forward to by many red-blooded American-type boys who attempt to crash it with varying degrees of success. Officers are: President Kathleen Phillips, Vice President Dian Larsen, Secretary Carla YVestover, Advisors Mrs. Laveme Wood, and Mrs. Fay Huls, NOT PICTURED, Treasurer Penny Phillips, and Advisor Mrs. Anne Hand. HELP!!! It is both an honor and a re- sponsibility to be chosen to help in the office or the librar- y. Intelligence, willingness, and good humor are necessary to carry out the work that helps to keep the school running smoothly. Congratulations to office helpers shown CLOCK- WISE FROM THE LEFT, Bettilee McPeek, Gayle Ralphs (secretary), Karen Mayer, Rebecca Mann, Dinah Lewis, Kathy Pinkerton, Laurie Vollmer, Sandra Vargason, and Debra Hurd, who do typing, make dittomaster sheets, an- swer the phone, run errands, prepare the daily bulletin, pick up the absentee slips (to name just a few of their duties) and in their spare time, goof off. BELOW LEFT are library help- ers Martha Klassen, Mrs. Huls (librarian), Diana Lewis, and Sandra Vargason. These girls process new books, work at the circulation desk, file cards and magazines, shelve books, and do many other jobs. Helpers NOT PICTURED include Maude Sanborn, Linda Parrish, Bruce Hager and Bonnie Wood. Participating in competitions were also on the drill team schedule. In order to earn money for their uniforms the team sold candy and light bulbs, worked in concession stands, had a car wash, had a cooked food sale, and sponsored a dance. In the spring they presented a revue, in which they did a collection of their drills. At the end of the year the members selected an ideal and outstanding Tigerette and had a banquet and slumber party.
