Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1956 volume:

GALLANTLY, LITTLE AHST , A WORLD RENOWNED TIGER HUNTER, HAS ENTERED THE HALLS OF ABERDEEN HIGH, AFTER HIS LONG VOYAGE FROM THE FAR CORNERS OF ASIA. HAVING HEARD OF THE FABULOUS ABERDEEN TIGERS, HE HAS COME IN SEARCH OF A SPECIMEN TO COMPLETE HIS COLLEC- TION TIGER TRACKS ABERDEEN HIGH SCHOOL ABERDEEN, IDAHO PRESENTED BY CLASS OF To show our sincere appreciation for her efforts, we the class of 56 wish to dedicate this annual to Mrs. Magda Dirks, Study Hall Supervisor, who for eleven years has helped students through their times of need. We are thankful for the consideration and guidance she has so willingly offered. 3 Little AHST , having gained the courage to continue his pursuit, is off in search of his prey. Soon, Little AHST finds that he has at last met his equal in The Aberdeen Tiger. Due to the supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Weston, the Tiger has acquired a strength of character and a sense of reasoning, unseen before by Little AHST . Under the able direction of the School Board, the Tigers have gained a sense of knowledge and security that enables them to out-do Little AHST , at every turn of the hunt. Due to the capability of its mem- bers, the Aberdeen School Board is doing a fine job of keeping our school in good running order. BOARD OF EDUCATION PROF. Since 1926, Prof Weston has been Superin- tendent of Aberdeen High. With the able assistance of Mrs. Weston, they have united the student body in- to a smooth functioning team. MRS.. As LITTLE AHST furthers his acquaintance with the Faculty, he achieves a better understanding of the Tigers skill and sportsmanship. Due to the consideration given the Tigers, through the faculty's patience, understanding and training, the activities of the school have been directed for his benefit and welfare. Realizing the ingenuity of his prey. Little AHST knows tracking the Tigers in this new atmosphere and surroundings is sure to necessitate an entirely different technique, than he formerly used in the far away land of Asia. Possessing all the good qualities of a hunter. Little AHST consults his ever-ready directory, How To Catch a Tiger, for information on pursuit of his clever prey. — CLASS OFFICERS Treasurer......................Janice Kirby Vice-President...................Gwen Phillips Secretary...............Glenna Cooper President........................Paul Wiebe GARY ABERCROMBIE Abb' Choir 2; Track 3,4; Journalism 2; Class Vice-President I; Tiger Club 3,4; Football 2,3, 4; Baseball 2; Basketball 2,3,4; Gem Boys State; Speech and Dramatics 2. Among their other activities i ere the dances they promoted after he games. 29 Drillmaster The Drill Team, which was organized this year through the efforts of Carol Bedwell, President and Drillmaster, proved its capability very well by giving excellent exhibitions at home games, Blackfoot, Snake River, American Falls, and at the District Bas-’ ketball Tournaments. Without their efforts in answering the telephone, running errands, etc. our school could not be as efficiently run. AUTO MECHANICS Greasy hands, and dirty coveralls identify the auto mechanics boys of Aberdeen High School. They take the credit for keeping the buses in running order by greas- ing, gassing, and making minor repairs. TIGER TALES CHEERLEADERS MYRNA The Cheerleaders have completed a very successful year. They have put forth a great deal of effort in developing the Student Body into a har- monious group, aimed toward one purpose, good school spirit. As little Ahst journeys further in his search for a tiger he hears some mysterious sounds. As he gradually opens the door he dis- covers a very active department of the Aberdeen High School, the Music Department. This department has done much to develop the musical talents of the Tiger. 33 BAND The Aberdeen High School Band under the direction of Mr. Walter Thomas had a very suc- cessful year. They marched at the Eastern Idaho Fair in Black- foot, participated in the Christ- mas program and gave a Spring concert. They journeyed to American Falls and Rockland on May 2 which was their first tour. They finished the day with a party at the Indian Springs. Their activities included appearances at school assemblies, talent shows, church services, graduation, dances and many others. 40 In tracking the Aberdeen Tiger Little AHST has found that they have developed a great deal of physical stamina and spirit through their athletic activities. This he knows is important to the survival of any Tiger and will prove a great obstacle in the pursuit of an Aberdeen Tiger for his collection. 4i JAY BECK, Co-Captain Sr. End No. 76 GLEN WRIGHT Sr. End a No. 78 GARRY HO Sr. Center No. 65 GRIMMETT MELVIN Sr. No. 62 COACH CHRIS LESTON DAWN WRIDE Sr. Quarterback No. 77 JOHN RUFF Jr. Tackle No. 66 DONNIE BURGESS Sr. Tackle No. 70 VAUGHN JOHNSON Co-Captain Sr. Tailback No. 73 DONNIE BECK Jr. Guard No. 64 1) DWAYNE jm? It is my only wish that you enjoy it and find it as a means to remember your High School days in years to come. As we are limited to space in this annual there are many things and activities that cannot be covered. That is the purpose of this page. To mention some of the things that would otherwise be forgotten. The first thing I would like to mention is our character Little AHST. His name was derived from the words Aberdeen High School Tigers. We the annual Staff would very much like to see the continuation of this lovable character in future annuals. Some of the merit due to organizations we have failed to mention are: The fine work done by the Student Body Officers in uniting us in thought and spirit. The splendid record of our Future Teachers of America Chapter which has won the State Merit Award for the last two years. The Activities that were not mentioned were: The fine Junior-Senior Banquet given by the Juniors to the theme Stork Club. The Junior Prom to the theme Wake The Town And Tell The People. Another very important event was the Talent Show sponsored by the F. T. A. Winners of this talent show appeared on TV on the program High School Parade. Congratulations should be given to Barbara Lloyd who was Home- coming Queen this year. Also to Gary Hawes who was the only Junior to receive a letter A Award this year. Congratulations should also be given to Shirley Snowball, Laurel Slaugh, Gladyne Horsch, Garth Sasser, and Jerry Partridge. These students represented your school and your town at Girls' State and Boys' State this year. I hope that I have mentioned everything, but in the event that I have missed something I am indeed sorry. Sincerely, 59 Donnie Burgess, Editor Little Ahst having spent one year in pursuit of the famed Aberdeen Tiger has ended his journey victoriously. Having found the true mean- ing of the Aberdeen Tiger he discovered that there is no Tiger but only a body of students working together with the spirit and fight of a Tiger. Having witnessed their success and triumphs he wants very much to become a part of their school life and remain in the halls of Aberdeen High School in the years to come. 0 YEARBOOKS olgjL] 0
