He was able to transform a group of average athletes into an overpowering basketball team, which finished third in the state of Wisconsin. For his great success he was chosen coach of the year for the second consecutive season. We are proud to honor a man of not only such outstanding ability, but also of great personal dedication. To Mr. Don La Violette, an inspiring individual, we proudly dedicate the 1968 Argos. Th is year ' s varsity was hampered all year long by injuries. The team didn ' t win any games, but all the members had enough guts to return week after week to practice and were a very proud bunch of guys. Led by quarterbacks Merline and Wright, the team had some really good performances and proved to be one of the harder hitting teams. Even though they had a poor record, the guys stuck together all the way. It was also a great year of experience for the younger ball players. Win, lose, draw—-it ' s always great to be a Squire. The Squires compiled a most impressive 19-6 record, one of the best in the school ' s history. They were picked for unanimous last in the conference, but someone forgot to tell them that. The team finished third in the conference and third in the state tournament with wins over Xavier and Aquinas who were ranked among the top ten teams in the state. AA Pat McWe The team started out with what most people thought was nothing. Many were shocked when they won their first game against Kaukauna. One of their most outstanding performances was a victory over Pre- montre in the Regional Tournament which won them a birth in the State Tourney. Coach Don La Violette attributed the team ' s success to a lot of hustle and determination. Coach La Violette was chosen coach of the year for the second consecutive time. Some think it ' s a big party. Others think that it ' s work. After two years on the staff, I know that it takes a lot more effort than I ever thought it would. The hours were long and the work was hell. Sometimes it became a night¬ mare. It ' s been a great experience, however, and I really enjoyed being a part of the staff. As one pages through this book, I hope he finds that it was worth our endeavor. Patrick Martin Editor-in-chief Well, at last it ' s completed. Compiling a yearbook is a long and tedious job, but yet an enjoyable one. We have worked many nights until one or two a.m. I would like to thank all the members of the staff who have aided us. I would like to thank Father Kempen for his advice and for putting up with all the " hanky panky " which went on at a number of our meetings. Next, I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who have patronized us. I know that there are going to be mistakes, but that is to be expected. I don ' t think many people realize how much ‘work is put into a yearbook. I consider it a great privilege to have been affiliated with the yearbook and even more to be able to say, It ' s been great to be a Squire.
