surfaces. Skimming did I sav? Yes! skimming. But when spring arrived you were more than happy to welcome it. For it was lacrosse season and that was something extra special. " How in the world can you cradle a ball? " you wondered, hut you caught onand before long the Green and the Orange were competing again. Track season brought out the Amazon in you! You leaped across the broad-jump pit or hurled the javelin with a mighty heave. Your Injun instincts came out when like Chief Fleet -as-an-Arrow you ran the dash, or participated in the relav. Tennis season arrived once more and vou were out there pounding the backboard as well as vour brain if determination was vour motto. And then, of course, GRIFFIN CHEERLEADERS Left to right: A. Some of you slipped into slinky leotards and flitted off to modern dance while others be- gan to climb the walls and twist themselves up in knots — you guessed it — gymnastics. Hail Miss Judd and Miss Elroy for keeping their eardrums in shape. (We do apologize for sounding like ele- phants, but we did mean well.) When that first snow arrived you donned your glamorous ski clothes, put on the brand-new pair of skis and felt terribly professional. Bang! Crash! Better luck next time down. It takes a few to get in practice. But what fun vou had when you could reallv ski — vou know, make it down vertically and land at the bottom in the same position. Or mavbe ice-skating was vour special sport. Many a happy hour was spent skimming over the shiny [61]

No slouching in that area. Swat — we were good! Many a spring walk gave you spring fever. And who could do home work after a canoe picnic on the lazy river? The year was draw- ing to an end. Spring Field Day brought more " Suntimes. " " When the day of " last chapel " arrived amid a mass of guests and excitement, joy and sadness, you all sat in chapel and held your breath — you were all on edge, hoping, praying for your team. Then suddenlv it was announced — « a mighty shout echoed throughout the room and re-echoed over the campus! The year was officially over! It had been a great one for all and especially for A. A. A.! The shield is placed high — symbolic of the meaning it has for all of us. [63]
