Sports The sports program this year be- gan with a day of wild excitement — Initiation Day. Both the Gargoyles and Griffins gave the new girls a heartv, if rather noisv, welcome as they joined the teams. The Fall season continued in the traditional way with hockey, basket- ball and tennis matches and ended in the climax of Field Day. Under the wonderful leadership of Miss Judd, a new member of our staff, and Miss Elroy, the season was full of activity and lots of spirit. To our great disappointment, Old Man Winter did not produce much snow this vear. While we had the opportunity, skiing and ice-skating were in order, in spite of the dimin- ishing supply of Ace bandages in the Infirmary. The Seniors were the only ones who really got a taste of winter sports. Apparently Intervale did not lack snow and, from all reports, they enjoyed themselves immensely, " coming down from Cranmore. . . " . GRIFFINS HOCKEY Back Row: F. For most of us, though, dance and gym were the afternoon activities and the dancers and gym enthusi- asts had their heyday. Just before spring vacation, they put on an exhibition of their talents; Ringling Brothers and Ted Shawn do not know what they are missing ! Af ter we had recovered from Spring vacation, we found ourselves playing a game in which it is very easy to hit one ' s opponent over the head — Lacrosse. This is something new at Abbot, and if the list of casualties is not too long, we hope it will continue. Tennis was again a major interest, along with our ail- American Baseball League. A great deal of thanks is due Janie Woolverton and Anne Dartt who have led the Griffins and Gargoyles, and to Jo West, whose boundless enthusiasm as head of AAA added much to the spirit of the rest of us. The games have been literally roar- ing with excitement and many voices were lost, but it was worth it.
