In my fourth year at Abbot I found myself to be a senior. I felt important with all the privileges that seemed so new to me, but I soon discovered seniors merited them through hard work and by accepting new responsibilities. Nevertheless, I think that noth- ing can top the life of a senior at Abbot.

In Which We Say Good-bye This year of 1948 was ■ marked by many world • • shaking events. . .we re- turned to Abbot as full fledged Seniors; ours was the task to set a good ex- ample for the rest of the school; it was our bright chitchat which was to liven up dreary breakfast tallies; v ' safl these were our new respon- sibilities, but there were also new privileges . . . we be- came the custodians of the Senior Parlor and the sole owners of the Parlor ' s Bos- ton Herald: we carried the scarlet banner to the white sands of Ipswich Beach; Boston was invaded by hordes of high-heeled Sen- iors taking advantage of their new-found freedom. Our talent was displayed in ' I Have Five Daugh- ters " . . . December six- teenth we received Abbots Christinas present, the em- blem of Seniorhood. our rings. . .the next day we departed for Christinas Va- cation. Intervale was a welcome relief for our exam-weary brains, and even to the non-skiing mem- bers of our class. Intervale was indeed a " little bit of heaven. ' ' College Boards found us fondly dreaming of non-C. B. requiring uni- versities. The middle of April brought the substitu- tion of Emily Post for drearv textbooks, our last Abbot Prom was nearly upon us. . .everything at the prom was as it should have been as we danced under the scarlet banner. Then came graduation weekend with its Senior Banquet. Garden Party. Baccalaureate, mothers, fa- thers, uncles and aunts. As we made our last official trip to the South Church, our emotions were mixed, we felt pride in the accom- plishments of the past years and a sense of greater re- sponsibility for the future but overshadowing all was a deep sadness, for we were saying good-bye.
