cAbbot (fJtierrj ' Qo- (r R urid Once upon a time three men lived in a little house in a Wood at the top of a Hill. One was a Fisher, another a Hunter, and the last a Woodman. The house was across two Brooks and a Pond. The country had a similar appearance to England (or was it Poland). One night the Hunter came home very angry. " Godfrey! " said he. " I ' m Tuckered out. I was down by the brook where the Pierpoints at the other side, thinking that I ' d Rutherford than swim, when along came a Risley bear. I Rose to the occasion and took Comstock of him and said, " Duncan any nearer, " but he was Cross and Russed at me. " Waugh!! " said I, having a Tingley feeling. Then I Ransom and jumped a Holbrook. " Forsyth, you ' ve had some excitement, " said the Fisher, " But Teichert, you are Sheldon Harrised. It ' s your pay for the Jenks you ' ve been up to lately. And you sure looked funny Friskin through the woods. A mite Greene, too. Joost then there were some Knox on the portals. A Poore girl drooped outside, her very legs Bowen with fatigue. " Oh, save me! Protect me! " she begged as she was swooning. I am being pur- sued by the King ' s Butler and Baker. " And she collapsed in the Hall. " H-Evans! " said the Woodman. " Quickly! Inman, Parker in the chair. Maybe we Butterfield her pulse. " " Someone has Craiged her on the Bean, " observed the Fisher as he Saundered over. " But — AH — here are her mortal enemies the Butler and the Baker. " Later the Hunter said that he thought the Fisher had been very brave. " I never would have thought that he could Rice to such heights. ' Stop! ' he said as he drew his gun Hancocked it. ' This girl has asked our protection and I can not allow you to dis- Thurbur. So Thayer! ' and he jumped on the Perrott once. ' It ' s people like you with no Hume-an interest that Burns me up. ' " And when he started in on them you should have seen them Milleround, " finished up the Hunter. " Boy, they sure were mad. ' You may be a Freeman now, " he Bellows. ' But just you wait. I ' ll teach you a lesson as I ' ve Todd some other people. ' " When they went back into the house again the girl had not recovered. " Isn ' t she a Darling? " asked the Woodman. " She is indeed, " replied the Hunter. " I ' ll go and shoot a Partridge for her din- ner. " And he went and found one Pecking away at something and shot it through Athy. When he got back the girl ate the Hulburd. She then gently hinted that she could eat another if they wanted to Kilmer. The Woodman said that he could Cutter a tree but that they would not get her any more bird because at that time it had Bain against the law for many years. Soon the girl went home to her father, the Smith, and all the men who were trying to Currier favor. The Hunter, and the Fisher, and the Woodman all fell back into their old Abbotts and lived happily ever after. 89
