Whittey. School registration was completed, and the boys in their noon-tirne recess discussed their vacations, their new subjects, plans, renewing old friends and making new ones. The Abbey's first social event of the year took place in October. This was a tea held for the parents, and everyone acclaimed it was a huge success. Mr. E. I. Sceery, Faculty Social Director, inaugurated a Halloween Dance, and on that night the youths of Abbey and their tres belles femmesi' made it a memorable occasion. Following this, the next event on our calendar was Col. VanBibber's movie True Glory . This was an authentic picture of the Normandy Invasion. All those who saw the movies agreed that they were excellent, and thanked Col. and Mrs. VanBibber for their grand support towards the school. A Valentine's Day Dance was held Saturday night, Feb. 14, 1948, and the following Wednesday night a Sports Nite was attended. Football letters were awarded that night. Billy Dunphy and Bill Pieper were chosen Honorary Co-Captains, and were presented with golden trophies. The week before Christmas, class elections were held and Charlie Hickey was made Class President with Bob O'Neill, Vice-President, Fran Nicoletti, Secre- tary, and Bob McCormick, Treasurer. The main gathering places of the students are either jerry Doyle's or George's. Here the students get together to bull while sip ing sodas or eating sundaes. These two spots in Simsbury have been, and I imagine always will be, Abbeys favorite hangouts. Friday nights the resident students en age in debates about the most vital topics of the day. These war of words have been Both educational and quite humorous. As The Evergreen goes to press the students are planning for a May Day Dance, numerous other events, and of course the big event of the year, the Senior Prom. As we look back through this year we see that it certainly was a year of leaming and grand school life.
