A. R. Willingham High School for Boys Margaret McEvoy High School for Girls Macon. Georgia Volume IV Foreword As we glance through the 1962 RamScott, memories of the many valuable experiences we have had during the past school year flash through ow minds. With the passing of this year, another milestone in our education is behind us. We learn every day in all we do; we absorb new ideas from class room activities, organizations, and our relationship with those around us. We feel it is only just to use as our theme that with which we are con- cerned, both during the school year and after our association with these institutions has ceased. Fittingly, the 1962 RamScott centers around one of the primary aspects of our existence . . . Education. z 2 3 3 = 3 Table of Contents Foreword Dedication Administration and Faculty Classes Organizations Superlatives Sports Activities Advertisements Dedication Her great contribution to Willingham is not to be found in organizations, but in persons. She has achieved the perfect balance of serious purpose and sense of humor, keen informed intelligence and warm sympathetic understand- ing. We of Willingham feel it is only fitting to honor and thank Mrs. Mary Lamback by dedicating our part of the RamScott ’62 to her. Dedication For her loyal service as the advisor of the McEvoy Student Council, since its establishment; for her warm and friendly smile and greeting; for the patience, understanding, and guidance that she shows to all her students, we of McEvoy dedicate this annual, the 1962 RamScott, to Mrs. Ann B. Hall. Administration and Faculty + oT ae sae3 oe no SoOwRs pane Administrators and teachers try to further edu- cate their students by passing on to them the knowledge they have gained of the world around us. With these tools—the plan book, teachers trans- grade hook, and typewriter mit their ideas to us in order to better prepare us for the world in which we live . . . a world in which education plays a vital part. The keys which open these doors are our implements of learning—books, pens, paper, and rulers. In the future we will look back and remember well our high school years. Barbara Gardner, Evelyn Toler, Linda Kelley, Loretta Brown, and Dianne Waters are going from the Journalism class to Vocational School for the printing of the newspaper. § Barbara Jackson, Cherie Carmichael, and Phyllis Lord perform a scene from Macbeth for their College English class. Classroom Activities Our activities in the classroom help us in the achieve- ment of our primary objective in school: to prepare our- selves for our future lives by increasing our knowledge. Some of us who are Seniors are at the top of our ladder of ambition; the rest of us are just beginning our climb. Those who are at the top will soon begin our lives in the world; others still have many years of school ahead. Both groups have benefited from hours in the classroom, hours filled with fun and enjoyment as well as with study and work. Mr. Byrd explains how to dia- gram a sentence to Charles Skip- per in a senior English class. Donna Merrill, Linda Proctor, and Jane Brown get practice in transcribing a letter in their senior Shorthand class. Eileen McGahee, Shirley Curtis, Celeste Mackey, and Sandra Cap- shaw demonstrate to their Physics class a successful experiment. Ronnie Ellington and Johnny Higgison practice in their Typ- ing class. Tony Wilkes explains a confus- ing problem to Wally Baxter. Sra 4 al 44-411 i | P.,. |! Indulging in the senior privi- lege of eating in their cars on the campus are Barbara Gardner, Linda Kelley, and Beverly Miller. Sandra Whitfield, Nita Brown, Sue Jones, and Elizabeth John- son measure the ingredients for an experiment in Chemistry. Looking over a book in the Wil- lingham Library is Jimmy Pritchett. To add interest to the class, Beth Lambert, Shirley Watkins, and Linda Witt prepare a bulle- tin board for their French class. Gary Digby and Jimmy Marden are discussing a problem in the diagramming of one of the sen- tences in their English class. Pat Sanderson and Jewel Copeland work on the sub- scription drive for the Bonnie Blue Print, the McEvoy paper. Robert Horton, Pete Harris, Jerry Moris, Dennis Freeman, and Albert Slocum are hard at work translating from English to Spanish in their Spanish class. Classroom Activities The members of the junior class have progressed up the ladder of education and are now next to the top. This is your last year to prepare for the great challenge, your senior year. Through work on the Junior-Senior, you are helped to mature into young adults and undertake large responsibilities. Although this is one of your greatest achievements this year, you also have prepared yourselves through studying and learning for your future career. You, the juniors, have developed your per- sonalities through class activities, and have expanded your education through ex- tensive study. In Geometry, Gloria Stehle, Mirium Odum, and Paula Fields work to prove their theorums. Johnny Neeves stops between classes to store some books in his locker. To raise money for the Junior-Senior, Bernice Allen sells Sara Ann Ethridge a pennant while a pleased Jane Farr looks on. Mark Bowen, Tony Barnes and Jeff Wagner are in an English class. Sharon Hart, Chris Davis, and Pat Dugger study in General Business. Classroom Activities The mid-point of our high school education is filled with the many activities of each class. This mid-point is important to the Sophomore class in that it builds upon the character of the individual. We learn how life functions through our studies in biology; through foreign languages and social studies we gain a knowledge of people of today and yesterday; we prepare for our future occupation through general business; and through physical education and inter-supervision sports we learn the competitive urges of life. Mary Jane Epps and Barbara Lord use the chalk board in Algebra 10, Shirley Arrington, Sally Hollomon, Har- riet Arrowood Mercedes Neves, Glenda Bryant, and Barbara Goldstein study insects in Biology 10. Studying is important to these boys tak- ing Drivers’ Education. Joe McDaniel performs in his Physical Education class. Activities From our basic ideas of education our minds have developed to enclose the ad- vanced subjects of our sub-freshman year. We have now become accustomed to the organization of high school and have enlarged our circle of friends through the many activities of the classroom and membership in clubs. We are developing in- dividualism, becoming ourselves instead of merely members of a group. We are now getting ready to enter the world as young adults, living as the right kind of Ameri- cans. Carol Oakley and Sandra Martin dis- cuss the weather in their Science class. In his Science class, Gary Arnold is learning of the varied systems the body contains. Ray Hamlin and Darrell Young learn to use a protractor in Math. In their Math class, work at the board benefits Linda Hawkins, Sandra Mor- gan, Ouida Brannan, and Angela Vis- age. In Mrs. Miller’s Homemaking class, Linda Kitchens discusses the Christmas decoration she has made. 134 Organizations “Fe POT “ a. a ee Through our work and fellowship in school organizations and clubs, we - build our personalities, characters, and educations. As members of honor so- cieties, we have our outstanding achievements recognized. Service clubs strive to promote the welfare of our school and community, so that we might better our relations with the people around us. Through membership in sports clubs, we learn to better our- selves in physical education. Musical ability is brought forth in the musical organizations. One of the most import- ant organizations is the student govern- ment body, teaching us the democratic principles and way of life. As our active participation in the classroom aids us to grow in scholarship, so our active parti- cipation in organizations aids us to grow in the ability to work and to get along with people. 135 i INVITATION f . — ae ROW 1: Gail McKinley, Jean Tidwell, Delores il Stephens,.
