Mr. Dick Hervey was president and Mr. Don Vestal was chairman ofthe boys and girls committee. The Lions Club, of which Mr. Lucien Morgan was president, presented a check of one-hundred fifty dollars to Mr. Boone for the purchase of musical instruments. The Mothers and Dads Club sponsored the Community Supper, the Pet Show, and Service Station Appreciation Day, while the Band Mothers published and sold Birthday Calendars to raise funds for the Band. Mrs. Joe Davis was president ofthe Mothers and Dads Club, Mrs. W. A. Varvel was president of the Band Mothers Club. The D.A.R. presented their citizenship award to Janice Latimer, and the annual American History award to Penny Laverty. Mrs. R. E. Patterson was regent. Barlow was president presented a check of one-hundred fifty dollars to the librarian for the purchase of books. The College Station Development Association and Chamber of Commerce contributed three-hundred dollars to- ward the expense of entering the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In 1953 an Educational Committee was organized for College Station with Dr. Charles La Motte as President. One ofthe activities of the group this year was the planting ofa pecan seedling from the Home of Sam Houston in Huntsville, on the campus ofthe new high school. The Texas Centennial Committee of which Mrs. D. W. Fleming was chairman assisted in the ceremonies. The students of C.H.S. are grateful to these, our loyal friends and boosters.
