S4 . ones 60500 The A. C. jones High School is built onia 52-acre tract of land north of the City of Beeville. It is designed to house 540 students, and contains basic facili- ties to house approximately 1200 students with the construction of additional classrooms. The building has 74,580 square feet of floor area and was built, at a total construction cost of SS784,615.48. There are 25 specific teaching areas, including special areas for teaching of distributive education, commercial sub- jects, science, journalism, home and family living, vocational agriculture, shop and manual arts, mechanical drawing, health and physical education, music, and dramatic arts. It is centered about an auditorium seating 1,000 persons and has a large gymnasium featuring folding bleachers and an electrically- controlled folding partition which serves to divide the gymnasium into two playing floors. There is year-around air-conditioning in the central adminis- trative office. The building has 514 windows and 223 doors and is constructed of 199,786 bricks and 1253000 tiles. It also contains 325 tons of reinforcing steel and 4,512 cubic yards of concrete. The building was designed by Smyth 8: Smyth, Architects, built by E. Eisenhauer, Contractor, and completed and occupied in September, 1955. . , The school has three grades, Sophomore, junior, and Senior classes. A total of 407 students enrolled in high school at the beginning of the 1956-'57 school year. Employed in the system are twenty-three teachers, a student coun- selor, a librarian, a principal, a cafeteria manager, and an eight member main- tenance crew.
