Journalism students were pleased with new equipment added to their class- room. such as the headliner and four typewriters. These helped greatly in the journalism department. Both the TALON and the SCIQIPTOFR requires many skills in newswriting. VVith lvlrs. Judy Patterson's help, the staffs learned the essentials. They then put them to use in developing the yearbook and the newspaper. Some of these es- sentials included: editing, proofreading, and rewriting copy. Once this was done one had to fit and key copy. Thus fol- lowing, pictures needed to be edited and cropped. Writing and fitting head- lines and cutlines also had to be done. The production of both classes would have been greatly held up if it had not been for the photography class under the direction of lvlr. Flichard Smith. There were many similarities in the publishing of the SCl:lll3TOl:l and the TALON. One similarity was that in both classes the students did their own page designing. although the newspaper did their own pasting up as well. Each student had to have the pre- requisites of independence, reliability, cooperation, and ability to organize their time. The Learning Resource Center instructs students The Learning Flesource Center was a place provided to help students learn more effectively by giving students an attractive environment and specialized assistance. The LFiC contained two teachers and one professional aid. Also, National Honor Society students helped tutor. There were two classrooms with an ad-office and study area. While taking advantage of the LFIC service, students usually remained in their regularly scheduled academic classes and attended the LRC during study periods for further assistance in their academic classes. The LFIC teachers helped develop andfor match educational delivery sys- tems with the students' learning styles. They also helped with study skills and tutoring. The teachers assisted with studying and preparation for tests. They also assisted the students by of- fering academic counseling. To ensure that the service was complete and consistent the LFRC in- structors maintained contact with teachers, parents, counselors, admin- istration and other important people. 5C LPC l l T l ABOVE: .Jeff Wood consults tea- EELCJW: Teacher, Fludy Bernick cher, Kathy Crooks with hornework. helps Dan Coughrnan with an assign- i ment.
