WRESTLING DARE TO BE CHAMPIONS — and they did!!! This year’s wrestling team under cap¬ tains Tim Donovan and Mark O’Connor ended the season as undefeated Middlesex League Champs. Their accomplishments did not end there, however. They also won the M. L. Tournament, the Chelmsford In¬ vitational Tournament, and finished second in the strong Methuen Invitational Tourna¬ ment. Their 17-1 overall record is the best ever by a Woburn team; and they are look¬ ing foward to a strong showing in the state Tourney. Next year’s squad will miss seniors Tim Donovan, Mark O’ Connor, Paul Carroll, Mike D’Avolio, Rich Eno, Hugh Gaffney, Tom Hamilton, David McDonald, Joe McDonough, John Turner, Dan Wackrow, and Chris West; but Coach McLaughling is looking for another winning year due to the return of several talented underclassmen. GIRLS TRACK The Girls Team finished with an even record of four wins and four losses. However, they have much to show for this year evidenced by four new school records — Lisa DeSimone in the 50-yard hurdles, the two-mile relay team of Paula Galvin, Jane Qualey, Dawn Connors, and Patsy Connors; the 4X220 relay team of Kristen Williams, Michelle Masotta, Michelle Poulin, and Melissa Lombard; and the mile relay with P. Galvin, J. Qualey, P. Connors, and M. Poulin. Co-Captains Paula Galvin and Leeanne Minghella led this very competitive team to high finishes in the State Coaches Meet and the State Relays. Coach Maltacea will miss the services of seniors Paula Galvin, Leeanne Minghella, Dawn Connors, Ellen Sardy, Eileen Durkin, and Cindy Lawson next year.
