Bands Compete At Georgia The Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble had a busy year with concerts, contests, and fundraising. The biggest event was a trip to Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta for a band competition. The groups considered it an honor to be invited because it was a national competi- tion. Both bands participated in fund raising activities for the trip. Students sold records and magazine subscrip- tions and raised S2,000. An auction was held in the High School gymnasium which raised S2,200. In addition to the fundraising events, the students provided a portion of the money for expenses. The Wind Ensemble was evaluated at an adjudacation clinic and received a rating of II. The categories for judging were: tone, intonation, balance, technique, inter- pretation, and musical effect. This constructive criticism helped the band prepare for the competition in Georgia. l. The marching band added the dimension of music to the Homecom- ing parade. 2.
