Row 1: Alexander, Swan, M. A. Harvey, Harrington, A. Harvey, Raborn, Anderson Row 2: Newton, Teague, Rooks, Boyd, Oliver, Massey, Smith TENNIS TEAM Coach: MRS. E. B. JONES, JR. This year the Waco! High School girls tennis team was made up of five seniors, two juniors, and six sopho- mores. The outstanding performers were Jan Masseyf, Nancy Teague, and Linda Smith. Nancy Teague, a senior, and .lan Massey, a junior, were the only return- ing lettermen. Other senior players were Katy Oliver, jenny Roolcs, Dinah Boyd, and Pam Newton. Representing the juniors were Jan Massey and Linda Smith .Sophomore players were Johnnie Lu Raborn, Bennett Anderson, Lana Swan, Ma1'y Ann Harvey, and Phylis Alexander. At the beginning of school the girls trying out for the team began playing tennis. Play-off matches were scheduled and eliminations were held. A bad winter Page 170 marred playing, but the team could always be found on the courts when the weather permitted. The first tennis match was held with Bryan or February 28. This match was held in Bryan. On Marc 14, Waco's team traveled to Garland, Texas, to partici' pate in a second match. March 20 found our player:- journeying to Austin to enter another invitational tourna- ment. The next two matches were held on the home courts the first being the VVaco Invitational Tournament held or April 4, and the second being the District meet or April I 1. This has been a fine year for our team, with mucl of the praise going to our coach, lwrs. Betty Jones. By Pam Newton
