I cannot say that it was the easiest road to follow, However I admit that these were some of the best moments on my life and ones that will always be remembered Thanks Mom and Dad for all of your love, under- standing, and support. To Margaret, Irene, Mary, and Roy, all I can say is that you ' re the greatest. The letters were always a lift. To my roommates Andy, Steve, and Kenny--we ' ve made it! Thanks for all of the help and good times. Finally, here ' s to Ft. Bragg and summer Camp 80 . Without it. I would have never met the greatest girl in the world, Susan. He soon learned though, under the proper guidance of 1-4-4 . how to defeat V.M.I. After the dykes left, thinks looked bad again, but Ed learned to raise his own hell. Ed not only excelled in having his share of good times, but also academically, and some- how, militarily. Ed has always been one to voice his opinion to anybody whether he thought they cared or not. Ed has always been one you could turn to in times of need and he ' d never let you down. The good thing about V.M.I, is definitely the friends you meet Ed has been one of my best. WES. Thanks to 1-4-4 , all the boys , the Ghetto and especially my roommates. There are no better. Also, much love and thanks to my family. Somewhere in the interim he found Nancy, , treasure some say a crusty old redneck doesn ' t d(j serve. ! John there are a lot of memories for you to look bac on- the famous lacrosse stick belt line. Ray, Daveset out making sure his blouse would be unscarred by rank With G Ray gone. Dave found trouble all by himself. Well almost, sorry Hop dates. Dave soon joined the boys of summer and moved with us to the Ghetto. Ring Figure brought new trouble; it wasn ' t finding a date that was hard, it was choosing one that caused the prob- lems Winter brought Debbie (the perfect lady) and we ' re still mourning the loss of a great operator. Later came the big Tech trip . . . right Hinch? Sign the checks. With Debbie or on the move, we all enjoyed the parties, the late night antics, and all the times Dave added to our lives. E.E.H., Jr. Well Mom and Dad, we made it Thanks for all your support and love. D.W.H. Everything looked so nice from the outside but being here was a real trip! I was, to say the least, disillusioned, and four long laborious years later I am still disillusioned. Thanks to Basketball I kept a little individuality and sanity. The only thing I leave with are the friendships of a select few (They know who they are), also my beloved roommates (Train. Wiener, Count, and Vasco) made these four intolerable years almost tolerable. I must thank my Mom and Pops for being behind me during my stay here Don ' t take life too seriously, or you will never get out alive. DYKES 1978: Pat Kelly 1984: John Miers Keith Samuelson

Not to sound like a eulogy, but Jimmy led a full life. With a dyke who liked to go to fuladison every night. Rat year was life in the fast lane (Rabbit never got caught Bleeping in Zach ' s hay!). Being a trouble-maker First class year he just about got the trombone section to step off. Rabbit ' s been a good roomie and an invaluable friend, and as we depart company, I ' m going to miss him . even though he never set me up with one of his sisters! DPL ' 81 3YKES 1978: Zach Whitlow 1984: Gary Rowdy Maynard James Estil Hostetter Butch, Steve Hog, Heisman Lexington, Virginia Civil Engineering-Army-Engineers Football 4, 3, 2, 1; Monogram Club 4, 3, 2, 1; Sir Edmund Hillary Club; A.S.C.E.; Drug Council; Concrete Canoe Committee: Steve Hog Hunt Club, Pres. On August 17, 1977 two boys gave up their free- spirited way of life in Rockbridge County and fell into the pitfalls of being a mere Rat. Destined to remain at V.M.I, for at least four years we, along with another Rat from the Burg , accepted this fact and began our sh - - runnin ' processes. Academics played a minor role in the line of duty as a Rat. Local hang-out 190 had regular parties sponsored by the Ferg and Drew. A girlfriend such as Gayle played a major role in keeping him at V M.I. We express our gratitude to Bunk and Grace for a job well done. Heisman Hostetter emerged as a Saturday great and the following year was converted to Steve Hog. Many great times will be remembered from those four years: Ring Figure (althpugh none of us saw the band Saturday night), Lake Placid, Saturday Night Ballet Dance, and Butch ' s private bass pond. Great memories will remain with us tor a long time, many of which were made possible by Heisman. Good luck and always remember to Do it up! Loch-ears Richard Alexander Hubbard Rick, Rich, Mary, Kilroy, Hubs Tonawanda, N.Y. Later, he realized that it was more than tough. But the mans burning hatred of quitting made him take it. One day a boy entered the physics curriculum because he wanted a springboard into nuke school. A man stayed in the curriculum he desired to learn more of the discipline called Physics . Once upon a time a happy boy came through the arch supported by a girl he knew he was going to marry. A man leaves with no one to marry, but the wisdom and some very good friends, . . . but when I became a man, I did away childish things. Thank you mom and dad and especially Kathleen for help- ing me to put the boy in his proper place.
