I ' ve made good friends, had some crazy imes, and have even studied (usually on the night )efore three tests), I hope to stay in contact with my friends Spot, jolden, Looper, and all the others. I ' ll always re- member my roommate for the past three years. Skids, because he was fun to pick on but always lung in there. The experiences I ' ll remember are cliff ;limbing, runs to the pipeline, and clubhouse meet- ngs. I have no regrets coming here I came to VMI a )unk and am leaving as a better person with pride, lonor and determination to succeed. My parents lave supported and helped me and they deserve all ny thanks and love. I dedicate my graduation to hem and to my dyke. Bont F Tulbert, who was like i brother to me. 3YKES 1978: Bont Buzz Tulbert 1984: Jeffrey C. Vielock Timothy Alan Nitz Jeffrey Stuart Hamilton The Hammer. Friction. Stump Hampton. Virginia Civil Engineering-Army-Engineers Tennis 4, 3, 2. 1; ASCE 3, 2. 1; SAME 2. 1; Trumbo Scholarship 2: Airborne School 2; Monogran Club 3. 2, 1; Young Economists 2, 1; President- Hollins Is For Lovers Club 2. 1 As fate would have it, the Hammer and I were tossed into room 444 together on one expectational warm August afternoon. From then on we have been like twins, sharing the same interests such as girls, booze, girls, running the block, girls, frat parties, and last, but not least, girls Though Jeff constantly pondered changing majors. he ' ll appreciate his academic hardship a year from now when he ' s sitting at a desk with his tie loosened up designing a bridge or a road, while I ' m either low crawl- ing through a swamp or selling vaccum cleaners door to door. There are many people whom I ' d like to thank, espe- cially the Buffer, who has been a great friend, to say the least. I can ' t thank Col. Jamison enough for everything he ' s helped me through He is one of the finest indivi- duals I will ever know DYKES 1978: Dave Gray 1984: Steve Mang, Alec Thompson James Andrew Hanratty Cool Earl. Big Guy. Hangy. The Kid, Toad Chalfont, Penn. Economics- Army-Quartermaster Pres. of Earl ' s Laundry Supply Company 1; Internation- al Relations Club: Sec. 2; Vice Pres. 1: VMI Firefighters 2; Young Republicans 4; English Speaking Union 4: Society of Young Economists 2. 1; Pres. of the Ghetto Cruizer Club 1: Pvt. 4, 3, 2. 1. Cool Earl cruized into the Big I 4 years ago - and has been cruizing ever since. As one of the few rats who was missed by the RDC. Jim was never bothered much by the Ratline, Although, the rules and regulations of VMI did cramp his style somewhat, it ' s apparent to all who know him that Jim is a cool dude. The kid from Philadelphia is really blossoming during his First Class year. His entrepenurial skills have come to the forefront - he ' s the mainstay of the Toad ' s Flag Football team, the actual power in the IKC - and the proud driver of the Ghetto Cruizer (Not to mention my personal banking system). I am sure Jim would like to thank all those faithful customers of Earl ' s Laundry Supply Company, who fought the monopolistic administration to support the free enterprise system. Good Luck roommate - I ' ll stop by for a loan after you make your first million!! G.M.L. J.W .M. DYKES 1978: Nick Francis 1984: Ralph Foersch

Bruce Cobb Gottwald, Jr. Teddy ' s Brother, LeMuir Richmond, Virginia History-Special Student Young Dennocrats; Soccer 4, 3. 2; President of Number One Club 2, 1; Lacrosse 4, 3. 2; Cadet Staff, A little over 4 years ago I decided that I would go to college and have a good time, which is exactly what happened I somehow changed my mind in the middle of my freshman-not rat year and decided to alter my life style - somewhat. I thought about that change but never regretted my being here. Special thanks go to my parents and family, who come first in my life. I must also mention the Fulghams who have always supported me. Certain bonds of friendship are made at VMI that will last a lifetime, for life would not be the same without them. Members of Room 150, Clay. V , Bruce, and The Legend - Tom Jack Slipek are those who come to mind. My good times were theirs and theirs mine, because most of the time we were in the same boat, sink or swim. DYKES 1978 John Woodward 1984 Pencil Hensel Sam Martin Robert Carl Graham Boo, Grit Woodbridge, Virginia Civil Engineering-Navy Cpl. 3: Sgt. 2; XO 1; V. Thanks to all my Brother Rats and especially Charlie and Jesse, times were much easier and a lot more enjoyable. When I arrived I knew physically it would be demanding but nobody told me we were going to have to study! Most of all I want to say, I Love You Janet. Thank you for being here and giving me your love and support when I needed it most It won ' t be long now I love you to Pooh Bear ! Finally, I send my love and thanks to Mom, Dad, and Donna. To Tim I send something too deep to describe between brothers. But I ' m sure you know what I ' m saying To all my friends and relatives: Thank You! DYKES 1978: Jack Wright 1984: Hans Ringenbach William Glenn Grigg II Jaws Richmond. Virginia Economics-Army-Engineers Football 4, 3, 2, 1; Lacrosse 2, 1; Confinement All- star 3, 2: Appreentice. One thing will always stand out-friendship. Friendship builds unity - Ml lives on these friendships-without them the Institute will die The administration will come and go. Hope- fully, this one will be gone soon, but friendship will remain. Many people helped me through this place: my classmates, and the football team: however, five standout the most-Thanks Mom and Dad for the support and long conversations. Thank you Melissa for the good times and your tolerance. Thanks Coach White for giving me confidence, for praying for me, and having patience. Most of all thanks Sammy, you are a true friend, you were there for the good and the bad. Best of luck to you and Kim. God bless those who didn ' t make it. North Carolinean boy, I v asn ' t quite sure what to expect Yet, in the next 2 years I have learned to love and respect him to the max Although not a true book- worm, his dedication and knowledge of the military can only be to our advantage Through road-trips, Sweet Briar, Fredericksburg, and Atlanta he has always come through with a unique grin and almost always a good buzz The only fault that I can say that Harby has is that he is almost too selfless and will always help a Brother Rat In conclusion, I can only say, Pour Me Another Tequila Sheila, and good luck. Now for my part. Thanks to everyone who has put up with me, but most of all, thanks mom and dad. I love you DYKES 1978: Craig Badalaty 1984; Art Schuhart Mark Judson Hardy Psuedo, Psuedo-Ranger. I ' ve won- dered whether these four long years have really been worth the pain that one goes through. But when one thinks of the hassels of going here, one has the tendency to push them to the rear of his mind and that is what I am going to do now I would not trade these four years for any other at some other institute of higher learning By coming to this penal institute. one sacrifices many pleasures that are commonplace elsewhere, but VMI prepares us for reality in a sense because life ' s course is full of sacrifices: sacrifices to your BR ' s, brothers, parents, wife and yourself. Many sincere thanks go to Mom, Dad, and Paul for their understanding and support as well as Jesus Christ for giving me the courage and strength to keep on keeping on-when the going got rough Long live ' 81 and Good-bye VMM!
