Stephen Crist Yancey Trang Waynesboro, Virginia CE-Army-Engineers ASCE 3. 2, 1; Hop and Floor 4, 3. 2, 1: Class Treasured 2, 1; Kangaroo 1; Posit Committee 1; Pvt. 4, 3, 2, 1; Ring Figure Committee 2 I really don ' t ttiink I could have made it without my parents and my family behind me. Mom was always there to give me encouragement and love. Dad was always there with his love and sometimes a little kick in the rear-end when I needed it. Oh, Dad, I know that the car is worn out from the trip to Lexington, but I think it was worth it. Mom and Dad, thank you both. You were always understanding to all my needs. I couldn ' t have done it without y ' all. Also, thanks to my brother and sister-in-law. They were always there when I needed them. THANKS. At VMI, you really learn to appreciate the small things in life that most people take for granted. Friendship is one of those things. I ' ve gained many friends through my 4 years here. You guys know who I ' m talking about. I just want to thank you all. I really needed your support, THANKS. DYKES 1978: Bob Longwell 1984 : Steve Hiller James William Yonts Jr. Hunts Needlenose Marion, Va. Ce-Army CE Cross country 4, 3, 2, 1; Indoor track 4, 3. 2. 1; Out door track 4. 3, 2. 1; SAME 4, 3, 2, 1; ASCE 4, 3, 2, 1: Pvt. 4, 3, 2, 1 Jimmy came to VMI not really knowing what was in store for him. He wasn ' t used to the military atmo- sphere, but adjusted well as his demerit record showed a big 0 at the end of rat year. Cross country kept Jimmy going as he showed everyone how fast a little guy can run. The Citadel trip, 3rd class year will never be forgotten as we guzzled three pitchers of beer after returning from the meet, thus straggling back to bar- racks. Jimmy has been a dedicated runner and has always given his best in every race. Academically, it was tough for him the first two years, but he has proven to himself that he could make the grades to become a civil engineer. It ' s been a long 4 years for him, but he ' s finally made it!! and, of course how could I leave out Kay? A special thanks to Kay as she has stayed with Jimmy all these years, though the good times and the bad times. She ' s a special girl! There is a lot of love between these two and I wish them the best of luck for the future. Bragg Associate Hero 1 Introducing Z, the VMI Answer to complete purity. Always proclaiming the dubious fact of his being shy, innocent and a at 25. The operative word here is dubious. Z ' s overflowing effervessence , active imagination and extensive vocabulary have provided a great source of enjoyment for me and an immense source of confusion for Earns. Somehow Z has survived the numerous submarine rooms and other attempts to defame his inimitable character. He ' s the biggest char- acter I know! Z is a true friend and a good man to have around in a tight spot. (Green M M ' s??) Smile! GAW VMI was incredibly satisfying and enjoyable exper- ience. My heartfelt thanks to those who have made it possible. For my family ' s love and support- I ' m forever grateful. AIRBORNE-ALL THE WAY!!! DYKES 1978: Mike Moore, Bob Jenvey. Harold Henderson Worrell Jr. Hal. Schnu. Super Sub. Roanoke, Virginia Economics- Army- Artillery Football 4, 3; Soccer 2, 1: Pep Band 4, 3, 2, 1; DMS 1; Cpl 3. After spending my high school years in Germany, my arrival at VMI marked a new and unknown period of my life. I found great joy in the fact that my family and Kim were only an hour away, Ivly athletic endeavor during my cadetship provided me with a release from the pres- sures of the Hill, many close friendships and a way to prove to myself that I could do it. I would like to give thanks to Ivlarge and Bill Austin, Doug, Joe, John, Gary, Bro, and Col. and Mrs. Saul. Above all else I have to dedicate my graduation to my family. Ivlargarethe, Deb- bie, Monika, Klaus, Mom and Dad. Joe, John, Doug and I would have never made it through without all of those food boxes and peanuts from Mom. I would also like to thank my future wife Kim for keeping my life interesting and eventful. Kim always provided a shoulder to cry on and a smile to brighten my darkest days. Danke fur aller Familie und Kim. Ich liebe dich immer. DYKES 1978: Bob Vidrick 1984: Scott Hand Alexandro Marcellus Wright Pasta, Luigi, Nordichi Alexandra, Virginia Economics-Field Artillery Pvt. 4, 3, 2, 1; Young Democrats of America; Number 1 Club; Karate Club 4, 3; VMI Appreciation Club 4, 3, 2, 1 It began as a nightmare, but shall end as a dream. The road was long, with numerous obstacles, but the way is finally paved for me to drive through the arch and depart the Institute forever. Freedom is just around the corner! I would like to thank my father for his infinite love and support. Mother, I hope you didn ' t worry too much. I love you both so much! To my family: Linda, Gary, Gina, and Laura: I love you. Col. Rock Read, thanks for believing in me. A special thanks to Penny Saville Burch for her loving support. You were an inspiring light in the mist of all this darkness. I love you now, and I ' ll love you forever. I wish you happiness! See you around Cubby. To my roomates and closest friends Jamo and Greg: the times with you will be cherished for the rest of my life. We made it! In conclusion, the title of a song by C.C. to exemplify my feelings: I ' m going to ride like the wind to be free again. Bye Bye I I!!!! A.M.W. Carl Wu Manassas, Virginia EE-Army-Corps of Engineers SAME 4; Foil Champ 4; VMI Fencing Club 4; IEEE 2, 1; Amature Radio Club 3, 2, 1; SPS 2, 1; Dean ' s list 2, 1; President of Chinese Culture Club 4, 3, 2, 1 Four years ago I entered a new world called VMI. I was surrounded by a brand new environment. May 16, 1981 seemed to be a century away. Time went by quickly as I became a first classman. Looking back at the past, there have been good times com- bined with bad. During the four years at the I , many problems occurred over and over, but I treat- ed them with the attitude of; that life is a learning process where the same lesson will be taught again and again. I believe the same problem from the past are expected to occur, but from my experience at the I , they will be handled with better judgement. As I leave this place, I will always look back on the attainment of my past goals with a tremendous amount of pride, and towards my future with confi- dence.
