PIGSKIN ROUND-UP For the first time since 1926 our Utica Redskins won an undisputed championship. The Redskins won seven games and tied only one, and that to Loudonville. This 1945 squad was probably the biggest and fastest team ever to represent Utica. The first eleven was made up of seven seniors, two juniors, one sophomore, and one freshman. There are eight boys on our squad who won honors. Mr. Yarman, our coach, was very successful in turning out an undefeated football team. This 1945 team will be remembered as one of the best Utica has ever had. 1945 FOOTBALL SCORES Utica. .... THE BUILDER The Stars -------- Football 'A' DON BARRICK, End-Barrick is a sophomore with two more years to play for our Redskins. He was second in scoring with a total of 49 points. This was Barrick's second straight year as an All-County player. it GEORGE QUINIF, Tackle-Quinif is now in the U. S. Army. He was a junior and another All-County player. Quinif was one of our big men in the forward wall. He was excellent on the defense and offense. 'A' BOB ADAMS, Guard-Adams was one of the main cogs in the Redskins' football machine. He hit the opponent like a Sherman tank. Bob is a senior and was chosen on the All-County second team. A 'A' BOB RYAN, Center-With another year to go Bob should develop into an excellent center and line backer. He is a junior. 'k GLENN SPRAY, Guard-Spray, another big man on our line, was noted for his smashing tackles and offensive blocking. He is a senior and will be sadly missed next year. 'A' JACK QUINIF, Tackle-Quinif was the largest man on the squad. tipping the scales at 195 pounds. Since he is only a freshman he will be in the spotlight in the next three years. Jack was chosen on the All-County second team. i' CALVIN FRYE, End-Frye was excellent on the defense, and a very good pass receiver on short passes. He is a senior and was placed on the All-County second team. 'k DICK DAVIS, Quarterback-Davis was third in scoring with a total of 36 points. He was excellent at running ends and throwing short passes. Davis, a senior, was named on the All-County first team. 'k JULES BERNARD, Halfback-Bernard was a hard runner once he got in the open field. He could pick up a few yards when needed. He is a senior. i' JOHN TROYER, Halfback-This was Troyer's Hrst year as a regular. He was a blocking halfback and will be missed next year. He is a senior. John was chosen on the All-County third team. 'A' DAVID TROYER, Fullback-Troyer was first in scoring with 67 points. He could run the ends as well as smash through the line. Dave was chosen on the All-County first team and received honorable mention in the state. He is a senior. 'A' JOHN STONE, End-Stone will be heard from a lot in the next two years. He was another good pass receiver. Stone is a sophomore. 'k BILL CLAH, Tackle-This is Olah's first year and next year he should develop into an excellent tackle. Bill is a junior. 'IK ROGER MASON, Guard-Mason made the first string guards fight to hold their positions at all times. He was always playing in the opponents' backfield. Mason has one more year.
