gm fuzsi 310 Features 1987 Miss ssence he twelfth annual Miss Essence pageant was held on Febmaiy 28, 1987, in the Ida Waldran Auditorium. The theme for the pageant was The Winner in You? The pageant is sponsored by SPBC yearly in Feb- ruary which is Black Emphasis Month. The five contestants were Janetta Dunevant from Conway, Anita Thomas from Nort Little Rock, Mi- chelle Holly from Little Rock, Jen- nifer Williams from Thorton, and Eugenia Bobo from Tuckerman. They were judged on performance in swimsuit, talent, personal inter- view, and evening gown categories. The title of Miss Essence carries a S400 scholarship plus a trophy and crown. The first runner up gets S200 and trophy, and the second runner up receives a trophy. Every- one who participated receives a plaque and a Miss Congeniality and winner for Talent are selected each year. Q Q is U SW? Wi ' Entrants. 'K New Attitude. Miss UCA 1985 Lori Boggs assisted by Gaye Presley, Kyle Hayes and Leann Hall perform their version of the hit song New Attitude. Excitement Builds. Anticipation and hope mount as time for the announcement draws near. All That Jazz. Missy Graham, a comput- er science major from Prescott, performs a jazzy tap dance. Karyn Leach from North Little Rock finished as first runner-up. Natalie Fox from Benton finished as second runner-up and was also voted Miss Congeniality by the oth- er contestants. Tina Duncan from Quitman finished as third runner- up. Rita Williams from Carlisle was fourth runner-up. Woman of the Year was the theme for the 1986 Miss UCA pageant. Ned Metcalf acted as Mas- ter of Ceremonies. Special enter- tainment was provided by Christi Taunton, 1985 Miss Arkansas, and Lori Ann Boggs, 1985 Miss UCA. GaleRhodes, adviser for the pageant, was presented a bouquet in recognition of her work by Kristi Kimball, chairwoman of the Miss UCA Pageant.
