'ul' he-ug: SPECIAL EDUCATION Maiors receive fellowships, traineeships For the sixth consecutive year, the Special Education department has received Sl25,000 in fellow- ships and traineeships for maiors in Special Education. The department has a practi- cum at the Arkansas ChiIdren's Colony where students work on a one-to-one basis with Colony resi- dents. In an attempt to research bar- riers encountered by a handicapped person, Operation Wheelchair was held on campus in February. Volunteers spent an entire day in wheelchairs then reported their findings to be used in achieving bar- rier free architectural planning. The operation was given national, state, and local coverage. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS Burdick Center plans computer facilities On completion of the Burdick Business Administration Center within the next two years, it will house computer facilities available for Quantitative Management Sci- ence maiors and business and eco- nomic research, innovative class- rooms involving semicircular seating, and audio-visual equipment to aid programmed instruction. Accounting Department added three experimental courses in com- puter augmented accounting, which require students to have problems solved by the computer. New grad- uate courses in Advanced Account- ing theory and Financial Planning were added. Within five years, new maiors in General Business Administration will include Real Estate, Insurance, Finance, and Quantitative Manage- ment Science and Industrial Man- agement. Economics Department is recognized as a leader in develop- ing the course Economics for Elementary Teachers.
