THE MESSIAH It took Handel just twenty-four days to write his famous Messiahit took STC’s combined chorus and orchestra of one hundred and sixty members three months to prepare arias, recitatives, an overture, and a pastoral selection. But just the one Sunday night. December 8. was necessary before the college and the city acclaimed the presentation of the oratorio and demanded a similar Christmas treat annually hereafter. Directors Foltz and Schliep took well-deserved bows, while Frances Amcry, Beverly Aldra, Toivo Rinnet, and Tom McCarthy will be remembered for their solos. Indeed, the old organ master may rest easily in his grave. The Male Quartet and Women’s Triple Trio turned into traveling musicians this year to present assembly programs at seven Northern Wisconsin schools and to hold rehearsals with the school's choral groups. Three weeks later, the itinerant String Quartet brought its music to four other towns. They have succeeded in bringing STC favorable publicity and also in turning the spotlight on their own worthwhile but little publicized activities. Subsequent musical history may prove the ensembles to be pioneers in extensive music tours. zA While forty-six voices ise in a chorale and soft lights gleam on beautiful blue choir robes, Mr. Foltz directed his choral group through its second year of fine performances. A mainstay in the Christmas oratotrio, the A Cappclla Choir moved on to fill the entire program of the April concert. Ending the group’s busy season was the annual Spring concert to which the Choir supplied a significant and appropriate close by singing a “Song of Victory’ Mr. Donald Foltz, Director. Could be. At least we know they keep the social machinery running smoothly; in fact, with friction reduced to a minimum, they even check on the supply of good will between school organizations. As a tangible demonstration of what they can do, the sorority representatives got together and staged the biggest spring social event—the Inter-sorority informal dance. With welcoming uncertain freshmen every fall, can you hesitate to call this “service with a smile?” (Vp v Representing the: Alpha Kappa Delta Sigma Gamma Phi Epsilcn Lambda Sigma Lambda Sigma Omega Sigma Pi Tau Alpha Chi Women's Athletic Association
