he Union: Within the changing environment of The Univer- sity of Texas, the Texas Union stood as a constant refuge for students. Undergoing several minor and two major renovations through the years, the Union has kept in touch with the different needs of the University faculty, staff and students. Adapting and adjusting its services, facilities and pro- grams every year of its 45-year existence, the Texas Union offered a perennial opportunity for relaxation and recreation. As an integral component of UT, the Union offered students activities not regarded as academic yet still a part of college life. Now through its first full year since its second complete renova- tion, the Union offers a variety of services, including a copy center, art gallery, general store and meeting and function rooms. The Spanish Renaissance architecture, natural materi- als and craftsmanship create a warmth which pervades the building. .. , :: ilflji ' I I . On the occasion of its previous dedications in 1933 and 1960, The Purpose of the Texas Union was recorded, a commitment in existence today: The Texas Union was planned, built, and now stands dedi- cated to the purpose ... of furnishing a social, recreat- ional, and cultural center for Texas men and women ... to cultivate a deeper sense of responsibilities of love for The University of Texas.
