Runners Achieve Second One personality trait of a top cross country team is the constant desire to run better than in their previous races. The Texas Men ' s Cross Country Team was more fortunate than most teams with this desire. The ' Horns made their wish a reality when the seven-man team of Mark Vincent, Ruben Linares, Danny Gilmer, Casey Kindle, Jim Rawlings, Kevin Borg and Anry Zelt- kalns had their best performance of the season on their last meet at George- town. The ' Horns captured a near per- fect second place. The Cross Country Team endured rough courses and competition to earn second place. The ' Horns started off with a fourth place finish in Houston. A mile of hills, four miles of fairly flat land and tough competition were too much for the team who placed llth in the UT-Arlington Invitational. Linares, a junior, finished eighth in the UT Invi- tational Meet in Georgetown, giving the ' Horns a fifth place finish in the meet. The Longhorns placed fifth once more at a meet in Waco. Injuries plagued the Longhorn run- ners during the year. Mark Mason, suf- fering from an Achilles ' tendon prob- lem, was lost for most of the season. Danny Gilmer was slowed down at the first of the season by an injured back. We could have had a better season than we did, cross country runner Gil- mer said. But, we did pretty well with what we had. After finishing a race at the UT Invitational. Freshman Casey Kindle takes a break to catch his breath. James Blake Rawlings. Daniel Ford Gilmer.
