BURNEY THE American Society of Mechanical Engineers was inactive during the War years, but since the termination of the War the membership has rapidly grown to thirty-seven members. . The A. S. M. E. Was organized in l88U in order to provide for the advance- menlt of the engineering profession and the dissemination of technical in- formation among its members. ln l92f5 the University of Florida student branch was established to permit undergraduate engineering students to participate in the activities of 'the national society. As D. Robert Yarnall, the President of the A. S. M. E., has said, The nature of the engineer's training establishes his faith in truth and integrity. His confidence in the future is strong. He believes that through education men may attain Wisdom and understanding, and may learn to live together in peace. As a citizen, in a unique position in our industrial society, he believes in the dignity and intelligence of the individual. Conscious of the dependence of his fellow men on engineering, he feels responsible for serving them.
