L. BAILEY WILLIAM GALE WILLIAM SEAVER ELI WALKER September's manpower shortage was alleviated when a bumper crop of out- standing freshmen took the Pledge's Oath. New neophytes were soon well ac- quainted with Alachua County after their first road trip, but all came through as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Freshmen became imbued with the idea of reciprocal trade, so the bloodthirsty sophomores were taken by storm-no broken bones, but sprains were plentiful. The war may have taken a lot of Pi Kappa away for the duration, but it didn't take away the social ambitions of those that were left. Every social function found all members and pledges in high spirits-not to be taken literally-and enjoying what he thought to be the last big blow. Due to the conditions of the time, Pi Kappa Phi lost its most prized possession, Mrs. Belle Road, house mother for six years, whom we all have greatly missed since she left at the beginning of the second semester. We have proudly made our contribution to Uncle Sam's armed forces this year, and Pi Kappa from our chapter are now serving in every theatre of war. XxX-N .. .... I.. , . . 7:

Fall Fralics found forty-five Delta dates enjoying one of the most successful affairs in the chapter's history. Graduation came and Blue Keyer Lt. Sid Aronovitz reported to duty at Fort Bragg, Blue Keyer Ben Fogelson was sent to OCS at Fart Sill to gain his bars, Bernard Rubin entered Northwestern to begin training as a naval ollicer, Irving Rubin and B. I. Miller were called by the Army Air Corps, and Phi Beta Kappa Marvin Weil entered Johns Hopkins Medical School. Next came the calling of the Army and Navy Air Corps Reserves but fortunately the calling of the ERC was held off just long enough for Delta to make the University's final social week-end for the duraticn a memorable occasion. Shortly afterwards the Pilams said goodbye to eight' cf their men who were called by the ERC. News of the death of Lt. Simon Rothstein in an airplane crash saddened the hearts of the Pilams and brought the war that much closer to the Delta house. DeIta's war service committee was one of chapter's most active, helping the DRCE program, span- saring its own scrap drive, and selling war stamps to members of the chapter. -'QS'
