When t'was over we found we had the larg-est class ever, in the ups of 46 and types ranging from a Boon to a Irantham to Lu Hall and Heasley. The rumors themselves started early this year and with the advent of the grid season plans were made each week-end for our final blow. For weeks in a raw, including the somewhat cut Homecoming, also deemed as a date function, the basement was dressed up In the proper attire for a fun week-end. Even so early boys began receiving their fares paid to Camp Blandingf and me FIIGDTCT IDGQUD to shrink, but only after arrangements were made with their local boards to lay over for a rest durina Fall Frolics. The Frolics, Will Osborne and Marianne were tops for the year and furnished a perfect atmosphere for the record-breaking 75 dates IIT the house. Then came Coffee Dan highlighted by the skits In which the techniques of a Captain, a Mole, a Deacon, and a Speedster were revealed . . . and Mr. Pettybone. Christmas, the semester Came and went and so did about half the chapter. Freshmen of course got the bug first and parties were being held nightly for departing brothers, including ShLIrtleff, Barber, Dominick, Brewer, Dell, Thomas, Tiger and Billy, Miller, Fite, Tiny, and O. B. Even best freshman Lanier slipped off on the 922i special to diplomatic school. Then, a Valentine's Ball and Brawl just to keep our spirits up, showing off some of the brothers legs and otherwise in a precision chorus. This week-end as usual the basement and library took a beating. Military Ball, Reynolds and his not-so-sweet music and Cadet Col. Hayes with Charlotte long, long ago. Lt. Col. Goforth land Megi, Majors McMillan and Philips, and Capts. Bell and Dominick wearing their Scabbard and Blade Keys along with itoi the bars. McEwen and Hayes were added to the standing list of Tench as campus BMOC's in the form of Florida Blue Key, which served as an erstwhile climax to campus activities for the year. No elections this year and emphasis was placed toward the last on catching the Phi Delts in Intramurals, while still making plans for after the war. At the end fare- well parties were again in order and a final salute was given to the departing seniors who had served for

GIBSON DONALD TYSON BARRIE MINOR LESLIE BRITT JIMMY PENUEL CHARLES AYERS National social fraternities last active year for the duration was not unkind to Beta Theta Pi at the University of Florida. 'ln spite of the great depletions in the ranks af older men which the war had imposed, the chapter was successful in pledging a record number of men. Besides the pledges, Frank, newly annexed mascot was added to the membership and succeeded in making a spectacle of himself at the W. Osborne concert as well as on the fields of PFP. Functioning in a social vein began with a bong during Auburn week-end when the campus jumped at the Beta Tea Dance, while brothers and dates knack themselves out over the only Zoot Suit on the campus! Fall Frolics found the Betas in fine shape for their big week- end of the year, Climaxing this week-end was the lOth annual Beta B- Party which was a howling success as many of the neighbors will verify! Early initiation followed closely on the heels of Fall Frolics and fauna' 23 men seeing the light of Beta Theta Pi's three bright stars. Topped off with the annual initiation banquet honoring initiates and campus great. January and February, with their gruelling cramming and- exams were not entirely wasted by the Betas. Pollner and Lewis announced marriage and Dlans of some, while less fortunate brothers turned to local talent and scholastic acti- vities. Come March and Military Ball is the lead news of the month. The Beta's did function in mass, To the extent that the living quarters of the house were given over to dates from all over the state and adding quite a few more complications to a complicated week-end. Climaxing the week-end for the campus was the Beta dance Saturday night with almost everybody on hand til 4 or later. Other than a little trouble with the neighbors to the west, the air corps, the ERC, and the draft, Beta Theta Pi has marched on triumphantly and so will continue in spirit no mat- ter how depleted the ranks become, until that day when peace and victory are with us and Beta Theta Pi as before will lead in the reformation of fraternities in colleges and universities all over the country. r
