CRISWELL SMITH DESNOYERS FOLKS KERR PAGE fIQfle C57eam., Members of the rifle team ofthe past season will make plenty of trouble for l-litler, l-lirohito, and Mussolini be- fore World War ll is brought to a close. They were the best rifleshots in the Uniyersity's ROTC unit this year, and in addition rank among the best in modern history of the sport on the Gatorland campus. ln 30 postal matches only four schools were able to get the best of them. Winning the Fourth Service Command Gallery Rifle competition with a 3703 x 4000 score was the climax of the season. ln this competition the University of Alabama placed second with a 3688 x 4000 score. The win was the first for the Gators in the command area matches since the l938 team turned the trick. A galaxy of fine sharpshooters made up the Florida rifle team. They were led by Captain John Folks and Alternate Captain Elisha Coleman, These two lads tied for the honor of firing the highest score during the season, a 388 x 400, Coleman was winner of the club member's match. l-le also fired the most unusual single position scoree-a 97 x l00 standing while firing in the National Intercollegiate Matches. All members of the team qualified as small bore rifle experts in the army qualification record course. Six qualified as NRA experts and five as NRA sharpshooters. Coached by Lieut. Julian M. Humphries, the team in- cluded Folks, Coleman, Bill Desnoyers, Ray Barrett, Seth Plank, l-larry Lee, Jr,, James Page, Jr., Howard Lucas, Bob Smith, I-lart Stringfellow, Lewis Tritchell, John Wible, Enos Kerr, and Dale Dougherty.
