A highlight Gatormen like to remember is the 6 to O Florida win over a favored Auburn eleven, lt was the Gator's lone triumph over a Southeastern Conference foe, Fullback Bill Corry drove over right guard for the score after accurate passing by right half-back Andy Bracken had put the ball into position. There was one trip during the season the Gators will never forget because of its hard- ships. While en route to Philadelphia for a tussle with Villanova, they were caught in a flood, which they managed to overcome. But the Villanova Wildcats proved too much to conquer andthe Saurians fell i3 to 3. During the '43 season Florida faced some of the leading backs in the nation, On the Georgia team were All-American Frank Sink- wich and Lamar Davis, both as fleet as they come, Mississippi State sported Blondy Black, a passing and running star, Georgia Tech had Clint Castleberry, the freshman sensation of the year. On the Jacksonville Naval Air Station team was a galaxy of stars headed by All-American George McAfee, formerly with Duke and the labovelg but uses finesse on backs lbelowl The charge of the beef brigade-Konetsky, Lee, and Klutka
