The Jap charged, wearing a leering, blood-thirsty grin and carrying a long knife with a curved blade. Judg- ing by the monster-like expression on his face, he seemed to have rather drastic and barbaric inten- tions. His objective was an American soldier and he was attacking from behind. lt looked like the end for un- suspecting Johnny Doughboy. But lo and behold! When the Jap came into contact with the khaki-clad Amer- ican, he was instantly thrown to the ground and stabbed with his own knife which had been torn from his hands by the quick ac- tion of the soldier. Who was the powerful American? Was it Superman? No, you are wrong -- it was none other than a former Univer- sity of Florida student who had been through the Gator Physical Fitness Program. This year marked the first winter term Florida has had G Physical Fitness Program and it was designed for an all-out blow at the Axis. Coach Tom Lieb and his staff of coaches turned from building intercollegiate athletic teams to making muscle-men out of Gator Students. The program was Supplemented as it pro- gressed and the end of the semester found PFP men deriving exercise from ob- stacle course runs, work- outs with sand bags and wands, windsprints lPittman runs them on the hands and feetl, and organized games. Many a drop of blood has been sweated from the PFP fields, but strength gained there will help to make many a drop of Axis blood drop on the battlefield. Qltlmletics
