ALPHA PHI OMEGA, national service honorary fraternity, was installed at the Univer- sity on November 8, 1949. During the year, this group sponsored various service proj- ects, among these were the Ugly Man Contestv in conjunction with the Red Cross drive, and the information booths for registration. Members were: Front row, Richersou, Clark, Gardner, Black, Lewis, Underwood, Wachsmann, Nohlechek, Detwiler, Weaver. Second row, Christianson, Stacey, Over, Snider, Terry, jones, Schneider, Thomy. Third row, Brown, Lindamood, Maxwell, Park, Powdrill, and Evenchik. The PAN-AMERICAN LEAGUE is organized with the noble purpose of fostering closer relations between the peoples of this country and its neighbors to the South. During the year various festivals and parties are held. Members included the fol- lowing: Front row, Meosano Guillermo, Catherine Austin, Dora Lopez, Marilyn Schneider, Eugene Chang-Rodriguez. FAIN Bond Director The University Concert Band, with eighty-five members this year, played in a two-hour concert in the University Auditorium, and presented two outdoor concerts on the library steps. The Concert Band also Went on tours to eight different high schools in the southern part of the state. In addition, they played at the Baccalaureate and Commence- ment programs. This year Arizona pointed with pride to its Marching Bandg larger than in the past and Wearing new uniforms, the all- male Marching Band played for all home football games and for the game in Tempe, as well as for rallies and other activities. A comedy Pep Band of ten members also did a great deal toward arousing school spirit among the spec- tators at the football games through their comic renditions of German, Irish, and Spanish folksongs. sw grae , ! 4 l 1 4 With a list of achievements such as tours and concerts, the University Concert Band Winds up a successful season. --136 -
