SCUBA CLUB S0SS The USNA Scuba Club promotes scu- ba diving witlnin the Brigade of Midship- men. Diving is a recreation that gradu- ates can enjoy throughout their lives; furthermore, because of the many na- val ports abroad, they can actively pur- sue diving in some of the best waters of the world. The club ' s primary goal is to teach Basic Scuba and to give each member an opportunity for an Openwater quali- fication. Successful completion of the course earns a scuba certification sanctioned by the Professional Associ- ation of Diving Instructors. In addition, the club also serves the qualified diver. Divers are welcomed on any dive, may borrow club owned scu- ba gear, obtain free air, and purchase equipment at discount prices through the club store in Bancroft Hall. The club also offers advanced courses to allow midshipmen to improve their div- ing skills and eventually qualify as an instructor. Each semester the Basic Scuba course qualifies approximately one hundred eighty mids. During spring break, the club also organizes the big- gest dive of the year. The warm waters of Key Largo, Florida, offer novice divers a chance to qualify in the ulti- mate conditions. Experienced divers take advantage of reduced dive costs. Beautiful reefs, beautiful girls, and a fun filled week are more than anyone could ask for!

SOFTBALL |W September brings the start of an- other academic year, another parade season, an another football season. It also means that the fall season for the Women ' s Softball Club has gotten un- derway. This season the team was coached by CDR Rivera and LT Meyers. Midshipman second class Christine Phifer, however, was respon- sible for most of the administrative and organizational duties. She was also at the core of the team ' s spirit. Although the fall season was quite short, it was an excellent time for all the players to get to know one another and to try their skills at several different posi- tions. Learning to play as a team was the main objective as the season openned with a five game tournament. Even though the fall record did not re- flect a winning season, the team con- tinually improved with each game. In fact, the Navy Wo men ' s Softball Team lost their last game to Mary Washing- ton by a score of only three to two. At the present time, the team is quite small, but everyone is confident that the spring season will generate greater interest. Both CDR Rivera and LT Meyers see a great potential on the team, which they hope to develop in the Winter and Spring. Consequently, this Spring season the Club can expect harder practices, work with the batting machine, and a lot of checks in the win column. y y y ' yg y Ky y y K ftv ' CROSS COUNTRY This year ' s Women ' s Cross Country team completed its season undefeated.
