Football 1946 Three weeks before the openmg of the 1946 season candldates re ported to Coach Maurer and Asslstant Coach Don Campbell to repre sent U H S on the grldlron Wlth only seven boys who had prevlous experlence the team prepared to play a nme game schedule of whlch they won flV9 and lost four Thelr 1946 record IS as follows The season opened on September 13 w1th LOLllSYlll9 of Stark Coun ty comlng to Uhrlchsvllle Lettmg down somewhat ln the last half when they were unable to stop a sharp passlng attack the Tlgers were defeated 13 to 7 On September 20 at Crater Stadlum 1n Dox er the Tlgers faced the hlghly favored Dover Crlmsons Although they battled the Crlmsons to a 6 to 0 score at halftlme the Tlgers were on the short end of a 13 to 0 score at the end of the game On September 27 the undefeated Troyans of Newcomerstown Went lome wxth a 39 to 6 laclng from the Tlgers who played a bang up game Saturday afternoon October 5 saw the Tlgers tangllng wlth the Canton Tlmken Tr01ans The Tlgers completely outplayed the Troyans durmg tne flrst half the score endlng 0 to 0 but they dld not do so well ln the second half The Troyans 1ust had too many substltutes for the Tlgers and slnce the temperature was too hot for any player to play over a quarter the Txgers went home wlth a 30 to 0 defeat October 11 found the Tlgers at Cadlz playmg the unbeaten and un tled C3d1Z Cardlnals D1splay1ng a tlght defenslve as well as a good offenslve the T1geFS left the Cardlnals to nurse a 23 to 0 beatlng On October 18 the Uhrlchsvllle H1gh Tlgers defeated the Denmson of well over 3 000 rabld fans The Tigers completely outplayed the Rallroaders p1l1ng up fourteen flrst downs to thelr opponents two and keeplng the ball ln Dennlson terrltory wlth one exceptlon the tlme when the Raxlroaders advanced to the Uhrlchsvllle 27 yard l1ne early IH the first quarter Wmnlng ltS SlXth stra1ght game over DCHHISOH gave Uhrlchsvllle permanent DOSSBSSIOH of the cup donated by Dennlson s class of 1937 The Barnesvllle Shamrocks gave the Tlgers l1ttle trouble here on October 26 the Tlgers swampmg them 32 to 6 November 1 brought one of the best games of the year Howl1ng lnto the New Phlladelphla Stadlum the Tlgers smashed over t h r e e touchdowns 1n the second perlod leavlng the Quakers completely stun ned because the Tlgers were heavlly rated as underdogs b e f o r e the game started The Tlgers were complete masters of the Quakers al lowlng them ln the Tlger territory only three tlmes all evenmg and g1v1ng them the worst defeat all season When the flnal whlstle blew the Jubllant Tlgers carrled Coaches Ch1ck Maurer and Don Campbell off the playmg fxeld November 8 saw the Coshocton Redskms ln our stadlum where they prox ed a llttle too much glvlng the Tlgers a 19 to 0 defeat The followmg players recelved letters and gold footballs Capt Bob McCullough Co Capt Guy Staley John Ashleman Carl Barger Ron Blddle Al Dunn Charles Dunn Don Dupper Clarence Draghl Harold Garrett Bob Gladman Harold Grandlson Art Ko Wars Tom Lynch Earl Matthus Don Mlller Jlm McGarr5 George Olmstead Jack Pancher Ernle Reed and Fred Terakedxs Thu Page lb Sponsored by Mahler ci Preston Shell Servzce 61 1 1' K , l ' y .
