SEASON'S RESUME The Tech Eagles opened the 1948 grid cam- paign on September 18, at Morehead, Kentucky. The Morehead gridders showed ai gruelling ground game and defeated Tech l9-7. The home-opener with Carson-Newman was a thriller with Tech passing and running to a 26-7 victory. One week later the Eagles journeyed to Chat- tanooga to meet the University of Chattanooga Mocs. Tech outplayed the Chattanooga boys the first half and led at halftime 7-6. The Mocs came back and tallied two more touchdowns to win 18-7. Tech's last quarter passes carried deep into U. C. territory, but to no avail. Georgetown, Kentucky defeated Tech 27-19 in Tech's poorest showing of the year, but sweet revenge was found the next game at home when the Tech men defeated Morehead 19-6, avenging the season's opener defeat. Tech then lost two straight games: to the University of Tennessee 41-0 and to Murray, Kentucky 34-6. The Eagles made up their minds to salvage Fech ..., . Tech .,.. . , 7 26 Morehead . 1948 FOOTBALL .,.,,l9 Carson-Newman ,,,,,.,... I the remainder of the season and did so by dis- playing more spirit and hght than had been shown before. Maryville was defeated 21-0, but the following week Tech lost a hard fought battle to Hlollford College, South Carolina, by the score of 8-6. Not to be dismayed, Tech went to jackson, Tennessee, and defeated Union Univer- sity 35-0. The crowning achievement came on Homecoming Day when the confidence of the M. T. S. C. Raiders was shaken as Tech hit hard to lead the Raiders 6-0 at the halftime. The Eagles came hack and piled up more scores in the last half with the Hnal score reading, Tech 32, M. T. S. C. 7. Another celebration on this day was tl1e dedication of the Tech Athletic Field in the name and honor of P. V. Overall, now athletic director, who served for many years as head coach. If the spirit and fight of the Eagles are main- tained, Tech fans should look forward to some excellent games in 1949.
