The '77 Girls' Field Hockey team led by Coach Dale Blankenship, finished their season with a record of three wins, four losses, and one tie. The team captured the city champship by de- feating Lanphier twice and Southeast once. The team failed to beat Southeast in district play, losing 1-0. Three of the girls were elected to the 2nd all-city team: Pam Riegel, Jill Noreuil, and Lindy Nelson. The girls enjoyed being on the team and had a lot of fun. Seniors 147

Bookends :l'hay, Iet's forget about the game. ls this Ballet of Soccer? This being Springfield High School's first year of soccer competition on the high school level, we had a very good season. The team had a record of 6-1 -0. For the soccer sectional, our team was ranked eighth out of seventeen teams. In our first game of the sectional against East St. Louis Assump- tion, we maintained control of the ball for sev- enty-five percent of the game. We had plenty of opportunities to score, but were unsuccessful. Assumption scored two uncanny goals to win the game. Next year with more and better teams sched- uled, our experience should carry us well into the sectional. Soccer 149
