Music, partying mean togetherness for girls Parties, country clubs, radio stations, basketball games, kidnappings and invitationals may not seem re- lated to choir, but for the Chanterelles and Chanticleers they were a major part of their choral experience. These activities not only helped make choir more en- joyable but also developed a feeling of unity between the sister 'Ftelles and Chanticleers. Although the two groups frequently enjoyed various extra-curricular activities, they also put in many hours of intensified rehearsal for their concerts. An ad- mitted perfectionist, Ms. Marle Lerner, maintained both groups' reputations for outstanding performances through her concentrated rehearsal techniques. So, choir was not only a time to learn music, but also a I time to learn about people. 7 Chanticleers 125

Choirs sing different tune With the departure of Dr. Don Donaldson as director, A Cappella, Heritage and Varsity Men faced a challenging year of adjustment, not to mention the usual difficult music. Though several A Cappella members saw the first few months as rocky, the path became smoother with understanding. Yet as the choir members ad- justed to director Ms. Marie Lerner, they also faced several other changes. One week before the an- nual holiday Vespers concert, the students were informed that the traditional candlelight processional would be discontinued due to the religious overtones in school. 126 Choirs While A Cappella watched this tradition flicker to an end, it also saw the continuance of another, candy sales and movie night, both a must to finance the spring tour. With the successful showing of Smokey and the Bandlt and candy sales, the tour was deemed a success. The two select groups, Heritage and Varsity Men, continued their famed traditions of singing at various community organizations, but under the direction of Mr. Larry Stetler of Coffeyville, Ks. It was a year of adjustments, but also one of festivities as all three choirs continued to keep their social committees busy.
