' Practice opened immediately after the spring holidays. An avcragc of thirty- iive men reported to Coach I-Iolsinger daily. Because of the wealth of material. two full squads of twelve men each were picked. The seven last ycar's regulars which have been instrumental in the so far success- ful season are Adams I, catcherg Hackett, short stop, Burbank, pitcherg Captain Spencer, first base, Mueller. third baseg Run- dell and Cocks, outfield. In all the games played. these men continually showed good stutf, batting and fielding commendably. ' At present, Shattuck has played seven of the eleven scheduled games. liach oppo- nent has been decisively downed, and in none of the games was it necessary for the team to exert itself to win. The nine men worked smoothly and almost without error. The season was opened by a slugfest victory in which Shattuck romped on Janes- ville high school nineteen to nothing. The opponents were completely outclassed. The tussel against the State School for the Deaf turned out to be a reproduction of the Janes- ville batting practice, Shattuck sitting on their opponents twenty-five to four. When the Carleton Frosh invaded. Bur- bank pitched a nine to two victory. The col- lege outfit was held to three hits. Burbank whiifed thirteen men at the plate. St. Paul Academy was the fourth victim when Shattuck stepped through for an eleven- four win. The team worked well, showing good calibre. In a second game with the Deaf. Shat- tuck pulled down a fourteen to five win. At no time did the Deaf prove dangerous. for not only did Burbank pitch good ball. but hc was given excellent support.
